Does anybody know why Huron Street was so extensively ground down recently? Over the course of a few days a few weeks ago, a lot of the downtown section of Huron was ground down, leaving an extremely rough surface without pavement markings. Biking on it, it just seems like an annoyingly rough surface. In the car, especially when trying to drive in the left lane, it's far more annoying due to the lack of lane markers in a lot of places. It doesn't seem like they could have been doing it to improve traction, since if that had been the reason they probably would have done a more even job on it.

Grinding a road down is ussually done prior to re-paving it. I can't imagine thay'd just leave it, it's too hard on tires in that state.
