I've always had to get bonded in city of service for longterm guntoting gigs.
Unless its a one nighter and you are working in a state where the CCW is legit
then I'd be weary of any employer that brings folks in without getting
background, bonding, and even credit checks.

I have never been bonded for any purpose. We did have to get certified
here by the state of Louisiana to carry a gun on site. Many sites we
cover are currently unarmed, but there is talk that FEMA will soon
allow armed officers on those sites.
The Law Enforcement down here think it is silly to be on site as a
guard and not carry a gun. they know what it is like down here.

By certified, are you sure that wasn't a "bond"?

I had an interesting conversation tonight with a couple of people who
are residents of the south. One born and raised in New Orleans, the
other in Mississippi.
Their lack of reasoning skills left me at a loss for words. That the
NO resident would be willing to fight for her house which was totally
unliveable and which she didn't even own simply because it contained
her mothers silver which she had no desire to retrieve.
And the gentlemans firm belief, even though a veteran of the U.S. Army,
a preacher, and a college graduate that it was totally possible for men
to breed with ship simply because sheep have periods, and that the name
achilles was a biblical name.
I am at a loss...

found out that the reason the hotel wants to keep us evfen though we
are taking up a lot of their rooms is that we are a lot cheaper than
hiring the police for security, particularly during mardi gras.
the police have a starting salary of $24,000 a year or their abouts.
Not a lot. On the other hand, they get a premium working as security
guards. $45 an hour base with a minimum 3 hours. $85 an hour for
anything with alcohol being served and a minimum of 4 hours for 2
officers. For things like weddings. For Mardi Gras, they get $106 an
hour, minimum 4 hours.
Police are also selling T-shirts now with a reference to Ray nagins
chocolate city statement. It has an NOPD logo on the breast, and a
large logo with the words Chocolate city Police on the back and in big
letters " We're Bitter". They come in chocolate color of course.
I bought two.
I have a report that I am looking into that some of the guys down here
were hired even though they failed the drug screen. Also reports of
people smoking weed in the rooms.
we had someone get drunk and vomit in one room. He didn't clean it
up. He followed it up by pissing on the wall. To drunk for his own
good, or that of his room mates. Also, one guy in that room has had
$600 come up missing.
also, last week we had 3 guys come in and set up in their room, then go
to work. While they were at work, 3 more guys were moved into their
room, tossed their stuff into a corner, and even put one guys stuff out
in the hall. The guys who had their stuff tossed quit, and the other
three were fired.
This is just more proof that many of these guys have no respect for
other peoples stuff. These guys are all young by the way that are
abusing other peoples stuff. We had one guy the other day walk thru
the lobby in uniform with his pants sagging to his knees. real
professional looking. NOT!
Another kid tried to get me to give him keys to the vans. I managed by
default of position to become the Keymaster for the vans. He said he
needed the keys to go to the drug store to get calamine for a rash. I
didn't see a rash, and by his attitude I think he was going after
something to self medicate. I mean, the Walgreens is just 4 blocks
away, easy walking distance. I told him he had to get a managers
permission to take a van, not mine.
No one ever collects unemployment from this company either, I hear.
They won't fire you after 90 days.
They won't lay you off.
They just won't have any work for you in Michigan.
Talked to a guy who worked for Wakenhut international before he took a
job with CSS. They were paying $18 an hour with 44 hours of OT. and
$300 per diem besides. They lost the contract to a company that
underbid them (like ours does) and he came to work for us. he was
making $2208 base pay plus only two to a room, and a rental car at
their disposal.
so it appears the cost of security is dropping. I understand their are
companies that do this disaster thing on a regular basis, paying high
wages for short periods. I can make more in 4 months than I do working
year round at that rate. I am looking into it. it woud require
working in rough conditions such as earthquakes and tornadoes and
hurricane aftermath, and maybe big events where they need people for a
short time ( think superbowl).
we had an incident at my old site with one of he trailers. They were
getting it hitched to a contractors truck to get pulled to a site, and
when the ready crew went into the trailer to secure it, it exploded.
Two of the work crew injured and the trailer destroyed.
What is scary is they do not think it was propane from the tanks, but
rather fumes from the glue used in the manufacture of the trailer.
This may very well slow down trailer deliveries because they are unsafe.

It's not that uncommon. I seem to recall that a Galls catalog (or some such
publication) stocking T-Shirts saying "Police Brutality: the fun part of
law enforcement."

I did, I would have survived the hurricane becuase I am rich and white"
Luckily I am fat enough to get that all to fit on a t-shirt.
