We are currently back up with our spare ALM card, so modems are once again
available. Seems to be stable.

Our spare power supply seems flaky. I couldn't get Grex thru a full memory
test, so we are back on the original (suspect) supply.

Those of us who only have dial-in access really appreciate you guys working
at wierd hours trying to fix this!

I'm testing Grex's terminal server to see if it can run stably, so that it
can eventually replace the ALM card as the way to get into Grex. If you would
like to help test it, the phone number to dial into it is 313 761-8290. It
should behave just like Grex's normal dial-up lines, except that if all the
telnet ports are full, you will get put into the telnet queue. Fixing that
is on Marcus's todo list.

The ALM (modem connection) card is back out of Grex. I am currently working
on putting modems onto the terminal server (stability uncertain) so we can
have dial access until the larger problems are fixed.

I no longer type faster than grex. My ego is shattered. You fixed something,
although I'm not sure about the relationship between lag the modem card.

Thanks, scott and all who are taking time away from
gorgeous summer weather to keep Grex up and running.
It is appreciated.

My dial-in session through groupie locked up after 47 minutes (at a very
pleasant 14.4). I hung up & telnetted in from netmeg.org - and noticed my
groupie session still alive & kicking. kill -9 cured it, but dial-in users
may want to be careful...

Yeah, groupie may not be entirely stable at this point. We need to do some
more testing on it.

I really would have liked to wait a bit longer before putting it into service,
to have some idea how stable it would be and to get the telnet daemon to a
point where dial-up users won't be forced into the telnet queue, but at this
point, with Grex crashing when the serial card is in it, groupie is much
better than nothing.

We are now back up with a different CPU, and the ALM card. Now we play the
waiting game...

I dialed in today and it took a long time for grex to answer the modem. When
it did the tone was different than normal.

I logged on through the terminal server, but I'm afraid that when I try to use
kermit to download a file, it gives me the brush off intended for telnetters.
Any way around that?

i dialed in this morning thru 5041, and got what i guess is the terminal
server.. confused me at the time, b/c i didn't particularly know what it was..
is it supposed to be in that chain?

First time ever for me - after attempting to dial in - took 9 1/2 minutes on
the queue to get into Grex. I must be in at 14,4000 because everything is
moving along so quickly.

response 96 of 364: Mark Unseen   Jul 7 13:34 UTC 1997

I KNOW I have my term type set to vt100, yet every time I log in I continue
to get a message "term undef unknown" and then everything else proceeds as
normal. This is more of a nuissance than an actual problem.

response 98 of 364: Mark Unseen   Jul 7 14:24 UTC 1997

I'm dialed in, at 14400 according to my software, and came in through the
telnet queue. I too dialed in on 5041.
Everything seems to be working fine, and Im glad you guys are trying
somethingthat helps the dialing-for-Grex ers. *grin*

I got into the queue, decided it was too long, and dialed the old slow modems
instead. :)
