I typed lynx www.grex.org and after about a 10 - 15 sec wait it gave me the
grex home page, in the colors I have set Procomm to display. Thanks!

I can't get to the page I want with oldlynx, and lynx
double presents, then adds a line at the bottom, making navigation
impossible.

What kind of line at the bottom and are you dialed or telnetted?

Judging from the number of people logged on and their IP addresses,
the internet connection is down.

My (lack of) success getting to M-Net and ftp.sri.com would appear
to confirm the theory that the internet connection is down.

I was unable to dial in this morning but can do so now. Does staff
know about the problem or should someone phone?

Someone told me I should have an e-mail message. I
don't. Is Grex busy catching up at this time?

I'd guess so:
2:13pm up 2 days, 12 mins, 65 users, load average: 27.60, 25.59, 25.82

Yup, we definately took a big email hit when we came back on the net.
The new lynx does seem to be very turgid about starting up. I think this
may be a ncurses issue. I may be able to improve it.
I don't know what oldlynx is, and I'd be a bit surprised if it or newlynx
work properly. I'll have to investigate them when I have more time. Tim:
what page, and what terminal setting?

How bad can things be if the "w" command still manages to return you
a load average?

be it a web page or ~tpryan, I still get lynx jumping the display off
the page, and each down arrow inserts a new blank line at the bottom with the
highlighting of the link.

given that grex was off the net for most of a day (what about 18 hours or
so), is grex entitled to a break on the ISP bill? doesnt grex's isp offer
some sort of reduction in the event of substantial service interruption?

Tim: Please do
!printenv TERM
and tell me what it says. From your .login file, it looks like you have
'VT100' instead of 'vt100' set, which may or may not be a problem. The
new lynx uses a whole different library for screen management than the
old one, and some odd TERM settings may not work the same.

I get the same problem that I had with newlynx - the screen blinks (draws
itself twice). I think Tim also mentioned this. I use VT320 not VT100
and it works fine for me.

Hmm. The vt100 setting works fine for me. It's hard to diagnois these things
remotely. Things to try:
- Do !stty -a
The first line of output will include something like "rows 24". Does
this actually agree with the number of lines on your screen?
- If your terminal program can do different emulation, try some other
settings.
- Try setting TERM to something other than vt100. Maybe vt102 or ansi.
I've tried misconfiguring my system various ways, but none seem to have
the same effects that you describe.
