More than you may want to know at http://www.answers.com/topic/indian-ink.
The ink comes from your local art supply store.

If someone did not know and was genuinely curious about the dot on an
Indian female's forehead, would he/she really be treated with such
arrogance?

That probably depends on how frequently the person they asked had
already answered that question. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bindi
will save you the trouble of asking someone..)

Here in Ketchikan we had around 950,000 tourists last summer and a
pretty large number of them visit one or the other of the local
totem parks. At the carving shed near the Saxman Totem Park there's
usually a master carver and often several helpers at work. They
are pretty good about answering questions but in order to keep from
going insane they've adopted the practice of posting or handing out
FAQ sheets that cover most of the more common questions they get
asked -- without the sheets it's quite believable to think that
they might be asked the same question (e.g. "what are you carving")
20,000 times over the course of a single summer. You'd get cranky, too..

Thanks for the links Mike. There are a lot of things about the world
that American students never learn in high school or college. Like the
meaning behind the Bindi, or the various meanings behind totem poles.
And while I admit there are bad tourists, I think a majority of them ask
questions as a sign of respect and genuine curiosity.

There are some totem poles at the parks in Vancouver which get major kodak
time.

Ditto #35 humor is the harmony of the heart (Douglas Jerrold)
It is not humor to be malignant (Latin Proverb)

what's the difference between a jewish faggot and a toilet?
           - you could kiss a toilet if you had to.

He only does it to offend and shock people on here. Sort of like a "last

his lips from touching their rim of crap.

Re #89: that's hard to tell. Why did his joke involve Jews at all, then?
He makes them the butt of the joke as much as he does gays.

Which definition applies? That quality of human or animal experience or of
its representation in art which awakens feelings of pity, sympathy ,and tender
sorrow.
A pathetic passage or speech,suffering;affiction.
The quality or character of those emotions, traits, or experiences which are
personal and therfore restricted and evanscent.

I've never understood anti-semitism, so I'm hardly in a position to
judge whether or not jvmv's racist attitude is genuine.

#93 thank you. But I was wondering about his preoccupation with
"gays-faggots-sucking on plastic tubs and etc) Guess rather than trying to
understand pity is in order. .

My gut tells me its not a preoccupation with the people he is slurring,
but rather a preoccupation with the reaction he gets from it.
