now we have independent news crews going to sites and asking to see our
guns. What kind of idiot reporter does that?

re #67 Thats because it is news to the locals when companies on their
own bring what is in essence a private "armed militia" into their
area. Lets see how you'd feel if there was devastation up in Michigan,
and they started bringing truckloads of questionable sorts up there
from Louisiana armed to the teeth. Every guy who never got in the
army, or just wanted to be able to use his gun, coming up and acting
like a posse.

Would Nagin feel more comfortable if there were more "chocolate" private
police down there?

re #70 I think nharmon's use of the word "chocolate" in that context is
fairly obviously racial. Nagin simply wants NO private militias
whatsoever.

Do you think Mayor Nagin's use of the word "chocolate" in the context by
which he used it was fairly obviously racial?

first of all, what makes you think we are questionable sorts?
second, most of these people are black coming from Michigan.
third, Nagin as far as I know has not come out against any security.
fourth, most of us are unarmed at this point because of FEMA.

re #74 well wouldn't you consider people hired for armed jobs without
extensive background/criminal checks and reference checks to
be "questionable"? It sounds like they were just looking for people
who either had guns legally, or were able to get them, and who could go
out of state and work those long hours. Beyond that, how picky were
they? Maybe you yourself aren't questionable, but can you honestly say
that some of the other people you're working with who came down there
aren't questionable?

Re resp:47: I think Nagin's "Chocolate City" comment was stupid and
irresponsible. I also think I understand what he was getting at,
though. Some of the decisions that have been made about what
neighborhoods will be allowed to rebuild look suspiciously like
someone's trying to make New Orleans into a theme park for rich white
people. I think he was trying to reassure people that everyone else is
welcome back, too.

I've always had to get bonded in city of service for longterm guntoting gigs.
Unless its a one nighter and you are working in a state where the CCW is legit
then I'd be weary of any employer that brings folks in without getting
background, bonding, and even credit checks.

I have never been bonded for any purpose. We did have to get certified
here by the state of Louisiana to carry a gun on site. Many sites we
cover are currently unarmed, but there is talk that FEMA will soon
allow armed officers on those sites.
The Law Enforcement down here think it is silly to be on site as a
guard and not carry a gun. they know what it is like down here.

I had an interesting conversation tonight with a couple of people who
are residents of the south. One born and raised in New Orleans, the
other in Mississippi.
Their lack of reasoning skills left me at a loss for words. That the
NO resident would be willing to fight for her house which was totally
unliveable and which she didn't even own simply because it contained
her mothers silver which she had no desire to retrieve.
And the gentlemans firm belief, even though a veteran of the U.S. Army,
a preacher, and a college graduate that it was totally possible for men
to breed with ship simply because sheep have periods, and that the name
achilles was a biblical name.
I am at a loss...
