I'm not sure people enjoy helplessness.

That's because you haven't met my sister-in-law.

Sounds like she's trying it on, which happens. My problems are worse than bad
knees, and I'm hardly "helpless".

I've known people that seem to use chronic pain to get attention. Others
seem to "grin and bear it".

I use it to get attention by giving it.

I have bad knees, severe arthritis in both. I am in constant pain, each step
can be agony. I am not helpless. I sometimes get upset when STeve or the
kids baby me by doing the fetching and carrying for me. Other times I quietly
let them or even ask for it. Every time they do for me is one less time I
have to move and hurt which means more I can do later when I need or want to
do something and no one is around to do it for me. I don't take it as them
making me helpless or dependant on them, I take it is them lovingly trying
to take care of me so that I don't hurt. I would do the same for them in the
same situation and try to keep that in mind when I do get upset about it.

well, I am bummed because I am fighting off some kind of weird sickness
or at least that is what I think is going on. Mostly I dont have any
bad symptoms other than that I am *really* tired. I slept 16 hours last
night and still had trouble getting up this morning. It is a weird
feeling. Oh well, it could be worse. I could be miserable and NOT able
to sleep.

I have had some really cool dreams though.

Mystery illness brings on vivid dreams? Sounds like a launching-off
 point for a horror/suspense novel.

My neighbor just mentioned having some virus that has made her very tired for
a couple of weeks already. Did yours start with swollen lymph nodes in yours
throat, chills, and a headache? (I have those today).

I had a headache yesterday and I have a bit of a sore throat but
otherwise, I am just tired. I am currently drinking a pop in the hopes
that the sugar high will keep me going until my work day is over.

I've been tired alot lately but that's mostly cuz I've been working with
little sleep. Last night, at 3am, the sheriff called me. Seems they captured
a stolen vehicle bearing my license plate. I ran outside to confirm and sure
enough my front plate was missing. They gave me the report #'s for both the
stolen plate and the stolen SUV(just in case, heh.) I've not had time today
to make the trek over to the vehicle registration agency, though...
The crook that stole my plate obviously had a vehicle of same make to use my
plate on so that kind of bothers me but what bothers me more is that the phone
woke my kids and wife so I didn't get back to bed right away.

IBB- I've just been having a bit of trouble falling asleep the last few
nights. Last night was just weird and I ended up on the couch so as not
to wreck not only my sleeping but the hubby's. Hopefully tonight will be
better.

response 84 of 318: Mark Unseen   Jan 14 01:56 UTC 2006

re #83 why not a good idea? There's nothing wrong with benedryl or
other over the counter sleeping pills. sometimes we all need a little
pharmaceutical assistance ya know :)

Benadryl can probably cause dependence, like other drugs.
glenda
response 86 of 318: Mark Unseen   Jan 14 04:08 UTC 2006

I have been taking Benadryl off and on for decades for allergies with no
problems with dependency. I only take any allergy med when I am having a
reaction and switch types every bottle or three depending on which one I am
currently taking and how bad the reaction is. During pollen season and the
start of heating season I can need them every 4-6 hrs, other time of the year
I can go several weeks without anything. Unfortunately, none of them seem
to cause drozziness for me.
