The home phone has gone from having a dial tone intermittently, to
total silence. No grexing from home until Ameritech fixes it.

I doubt I was asleep, I woke up several times during the night. :(
Getting rear ended on the way into work (and thus being late) is a
great way to start the day.
And people wonder why I hate snow.

And there is hope in sight for your cold. I am almost over mine. I stopped
coughing badly about 2 days ago :):):)
BUT IBB my allergies, having been cut off from the rest of the world with
my cold/upper resp infection have come back full swing. They hate me, and
they are going to prove it. So while I don't have the coughing that I had,
I am still stuffed up and my head hurts. ARRGH. A few more weeks and I start
allergy shots...if I live that long.
IABB my desk won't fit in my room. I tried. But it's too wide and deep to
go through. Unless you cut the legs off, which is NOT an option, it won't
go. Tried it about 8 different ways. So it's in the dining room, my whole
"scheme" is ruined, and I have to decide what to do with the table and chairs
that has no home now. Though about when Christmas is over putting it in front
of the living room window and making it a craft/sewing table (2 person drop
leaf table with 2 chairs) so I have a place for all my little things. Might
work. <deep sigh> I hate it when things don't work out the way I want them
to. Also, a pox on my father, my step-mom (to be), and other heavy furnature
moves who just plopped the stuff down rather than asking where it went. But
it's fine now... <grrr>

Had to stay up late lasn night and play a bar gig. Now all my equipment
smells like a bar, too. :(

Try putting desk on side. Remove any modesty sheild (if possible).
Then you may be able to put one set of legs thru, swing, and get the
rest into the room.
Plan b: Buy another unassembled desk. Assemble in desired room.

Tried every possible angle and to explain about the desk, it is an old wooden
writers desk, part of the top lifts up and slides back to hold a typewriter,
so it has a mechanisim in it to move that up and down. Also has 3 drawers
and the bottom two lock when the top drawer is in, and a writing board that
comes out from the side. Rather wonderful desk, refinished and given to me
as a gift. I adore it. So my plans for my apartment aren't quite the way
I want it, but I can make do. Just rather dissapointing.

Does the desk come apart with screws, or is it all glued? It's odd that
it wouldn't fit.. Do you have an extra narrow door or something?

No standard door, but the desk is deeper than a normal desk. It's 36" deep,
I believe (having not measured it in 2 years) It is screwed but they are
hidden, and the rest is glued. The legs themselves are only about 8" long.
I needed only 2" more room, but even taking off the door in the bedroom it
wouldn't work.

I have an old wooden desk, except without the typewriter mechanism.
Walnut - really beautiful, and very massive. I had to take the top
off, but that was not difficult as the iron angles and screws were
accessible from underneath. (I don't recall having to remove the legs,
but that should be possible - and give more space than just removing
the top).

Is it 36" tall too? That would be surprisingly tall for a desk;
standard desk height is about 30.5". Standard door width is about 30",
and there are usually at least short legs on a desk, so it's normally
possible to put a desk in sideways, perhaps with a bit of wriggling to
get the feet to clear. Normally you would take the drawers out first,
not only to save weight but also so they don't fall straight down and
make things awkward. There's usually a straight shot in from an office
doorway into the office, but bedrooms sometimes have right angles or
other awkwardnesses. In that case, standing the desk on end (if it's
less than 72" long) is an option.

well, tried standing it on the end. Both of them. On it's front, on the
back..I mean I tried everything. The entrance to the bedroom is a T so nice
right angle

So that the desk will not fit through the entrace to the bed/bath area without
angling the legs. But it is so short (only the width of the door) for that
space, that you can't fully angle it to get it in. It's supposed to be a
Handicapp Accessable apartment, but my mother and I couldn't figure out how
a wheelchair would fit through that right angle.

Well, I just got email saying that my Great Uncle Bruce had a heart attack,
and died this morning.
His health hasn't been great lately, but the heart attack is a bit of a shock.

I'm afraid I'd have to see it in person to get a better idea - the best
I could get from your map is to wonder if you have friends named "Laura"
and "the doctor". If the bed's in the way, perhaps it can be moved out
the way temporarily? If the doorway is almost as wide as the desk,
removing the door might give you an extra 1" of room, which might make
for a lot less angling, and more room in which to do that angling. The
only other suggestion I could make is to insert it into the room through
the window, but that's not likely to be real practical.

Resp:579 :: the intermittent dial tone came back for three hours this
afternoon, just in time for the Ameritech guy to test the line, claim
there was no problem, and close the ticket. Line went dead again
at 6:45.
We feel stranded with no online access from home. Aside from our
emotionally unhealthy attachment to Grex, there is the practical question
of needing web access to do Christmas shopping.

I had a problem like this just recently. Finally figured out that the problem
was my laptop's combined Ethernet/Modem jack: plugging it into a jack wired
for both house lines took out both lines. I need to make a two-conductor
phone cord before I try that again.

I hate the holiday season.. Bah friggin humbug...
my friends cat is doing better.. but my other friend is still in the hospital.
and I can only find some of my materials from my lost backpack, a few days
left before finals.. (Just the right friggin time to lose it yeesh)

I assume LR and DR stand for living room and dining room.
Most desks and tables I've seen have some way to take the legs off, even if
it's not very obvious. Of course, there are probably exceptions to that,
especially in old furniture that was not designed to be able to be shipped
to the store in a flat box.
