I completely agree with Scott, in resp:51. I was going to
say that, but he beat me to it.

I've seen a private message concerning Ryan, & am convinced that the
necessary things have been done so far as Ryan Antkowiak, private user
of party, goes. I no longer feel a public apology is required from Ryan
(however, it might do much to restore the confidence of others in him.)
The other person I found was not ankh. Nevertheless, I appreciate
ankh's honesty, and hope he now realizes it's a bad thing to do.
The person I have not yet seen an apology from has entered a response in
this item, and uses the services provided by the Baraga Telephone
Company. That ISP does provide RFC 1413 (ident) information, so I know
that that person uses the same loginid there as here. The ISP also has
a very nice policy page, which prohibits unlawful use, requires that
access to other networks must comply with the rules appropriate to that
network, and specifically provides that accounts used for fradulent use
may be terminated without notice.
party uses a "real-time interactive" style of communicating, which is
quite foreign to http's one-shot off-line browsing style of interaction.
In order to duplicate the functionality of party, it's pretty much
necessary either to write a "plug-in", or a "java" applet that provides
for a real-time "constantly updated" type of interface. There are other
web sites that apparently already do this, so I don't think it's much of
a priority to do on grex. If we *wanted* to cater to that kind of
niche, we'd probably also want to run our own irc daemon, and that's
definitely something we don't have the resources to do.

I don't know about others here but after "meeting" ryan's mom
I'm going to cut ryan some additional slack. The kid is doing
amazingly well, considering.

i've also met ryan1, aliz, the rest of the family and, i think, a
friend or two were were 'along for the ride.'
fits of picque (sp?) can be stimulated in so many ways. arjun is the
problem here. ryan1 and others (including janc) could have done "worse,"
but didn't. let's credit was was NOT done as we consider what was done.

Apology accepted. We all have bad days, and sometimes they are *really* bad
;-)
