Believe it or not, pty's have parity, stop bits, and baud-rate. Also,
the kernel checks for invalid parameters, and telnet/telnetd try to
propagate this stuff. This may seem bizarre, but consider this: vi
*looks* at the baud-rate to decide how much of the screen to refresh
(try "stty 300; vi /etc/passwd"). If you had a slow connection to your
local machine, then a fast telnet connection out, you'd probably want vi
to respect the speed of your slow local connection.

My connection always trains at 28Kbps or better with a 33.6K modem. So,
is that the cause of that erratic logout response?

Grex is dropping my telnet connection about every 15 minutes tonight.
I'm managing to sustain connections to M-net and work machines.

Some staff person should call Voyager. I'd prefer that that person not be
me.

The WWW is very, very slow tonight.

I've been on Grex for about two hours now without another interruption.
Whatever was happening before, stopped happening.

No it didn't. I got killed in the middle of agora. I was (and still am)
highly annoyed. This has been going on for a couple of weeks.

I haven't had any problems lately, but when I do it's almost always that
voyager hop that's causing trouble.

i have been dumped twice in that last hour.

response 60 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 15:11 UTC 2000

fwiw, using Backtalk, I'd get random "Could not connect to host" messages.
Clicking on whatever button I clicked on originally would work the second time,
however. Sounds like this and the telnet dumping are related.

fwiw, it just happened again

response 62 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 15:26 UTC 2000

AARGH. I have been kicked out of telnet I can't how many times this morning,
then I try backtalk and I get those "could not connect to host" messages, and
then when I try telnetting in again, I get right in, and it still says
backtalk can't connect.

What the F is up? Once in a while, I can understand, but does Grex need an
electric blankey or something?

response 63 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 15:33 UTC 2000

Just did it again.
ashke
response 64 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 15:40 UTC 2000

And it just did it again. I'm trying to read agora, so everytime it kicks
me out saying "connection to host lost" I have to come back in here and
re-read everything I've read. I'm NEVER going to get through all of this!
ashke
response 65 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 16:02 UTC 2000

AARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG

It did it again. I'm starting to notice that it has done it now 4 times when
I have gone to enter something in a cf, and the other 2 times when I Have
pressed the space to contine srolling to read in a cf item.

This is getting supremely aggrivating

        Exit out of bbs periodically.

Actually there's some option to do it the correct way . .
ashke
response 67 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 16:22 UTC 2000

I can't exit out of it periodically if I keep getting booted. And yes, it
just happened again. I got booted, and when I tried to telnet back in, the
first time it said "Cannot estabilsh connection to grex.cyberspace.org" and
then the second time it let me in.
ashke
response 68 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 16:26 UTC 2000

Okay, just happened AGAIn. I'm not enjoying this. Can someone, marcus,
anyone, try and figure out what is going on? I mean, I got lagged at my csh
prompt, so that I thought I was going to loose my connection again.

ashke
response 69 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 16:31 UTC 2000

Alrright. This is the last time. It did it again.

I'm going to try this, but if I get booted again, to hell with Agora today.

I've been on for a while now, and the only problem is that now and then
the systems hangs for up to a minute, but it comes back and keeps
chugging along.
gull
response 72 of 188: Mark Unseen   Oct 9 18:34 UTC 2000

After posting above that I wasn't having any problems, I got two blips, both
over a minute long. I've had to give up using ssh and use telnet instead to
connect, because telnet doesn't give up as quickly.
