I think the room would have been kind of hard to find. I walked in and asked
the person who was seating people where the Grex group was, and they took me
there.

As is clear from the preceding, I spotted TS at the Art Fair.
(By the way, it wasn't my first viewing of the Grex logo, just
my first one on a t-shirt.)

The proposed amendment to the Cyberspace Communications bylaws,
to allow non-voting corporate memberships, passed by a vote of
29 in favor, 1 against.

I don't see how sitting in party should be any different than sitting at the
grex shell prompt - 15 + 5 minutes of inactivity and you should be out of
*grex* period.

Speaking of such things, has Grex ceased seeing download loading time as
"idle"? I don't download from Grex often, but now, with my disk drive
problems, I don't have much of a choice.

(Didn't say quite what I meant to in #60...)

Re #58: There would be technical problems with implementing that
concept. The party program can tell whether someone is "idle in
party" or not, but can't tell whether the person is actually
doing something elsewhere on Grex. So you wouldn't want the
party program booting people off Grex just because they're idle
in party.

On the other hand, the system-wide idle timer can't easily tell
whether someone in party is active or not, because it can't
distinguish between the different party participants.

So the two-stage process of "first boot someone from party, then
boot them from Grex if they don't do anything else for a while"
seems to be about the best that can easily be done.

The idleout seemed to be working before, was it off?

Let me make sure I am reading this correctly...

Login Name TTY Idle Login Time Location Work Phone
atrocity Against the Stars *s1 3d Jul 19 06:23

Does that says that said user has been idle for three days?

response 65 of 139: Mark Unseen   Jul 22 22:23 UTC 1997

That was a hung connection of some sort, not a living, breathing user.

There is also an idle timeout built into (at least some of) the modems. If
you dial in on those, that will boot you off after 20 idle minutes. It works
much better than the idle daemon, since it is much better able to tell if you
are really idle or not. However, it doesn't work on telnet lines.

Re #63: So I've noticed when I've downloaded large items. But there's only
so many times a person can bang the Enter key without getting sick of it.
O well, I'll wait until I get back to Winona nd can use Luminet's access again
to have my Netscape and other Internet Software running.

I have drawn some new 3-D buttons for the pistachio interface of
backtalk. I just changed the default buttons to the new 3D green
buttons. They are also available in a few other colors, but not too
many, yet. I'll take requests for new color schemes, though.

I have replaced the buttonmenu for FWs, so that if you want to change
the button style, you now get your choice of colors in the new style.
The old style buttons are still being served, but they have been removed
from the menu available to FWs, mostly because the new ones are better
on they were interim buttons anyway.

(Have you considered giving users the option of choosing button
styles and other options, rather than fw's?)

response 69 of 139: Mark Unseen   Jul 28 02:39 UTC 1997

No, John, not any more than in our discussions earlier elsewhere, where we
decided that this would be nice. Implementation of that would go mostly into
the pistachio interface, rather than the backtalk engine.

I just used this program to make Grex think I have a vt102. One question:
When it changed the login program, did it just change the line about the
terminal? or did it go back to some default file?
