What's an "ICMP"? The "Inept Canadian Mounted Police"?
it
response 51 of 274: Mark Unseen   Jan 1 07:33 UTC 1997

Well, if you take out the 'M' get get a music group, but seriously, ICMP
stands for "Internet Control Message Protocol." The "ping" program
sends ICMP packets to a destination host, and times how long it takes to
return. It is often used to check if a computer if on the network and
up and running, or it can be used to determine the speed of data
transfer between computers.

[Correct me if I'm wrong with any of this, guru's]

Re: 52: OK, when you type "guru's" it is possessive. I think you meant to
type "gurus".

H2 is having a problem. Last night when I connected it thought I was
on backtalk, gave me all capitals and html programming. Tonight
while in party I discovered that I was being locked out of the scroll
if I didn't type every minute. Almost like lag. Hard to describe but
its constant and repeatable tonight.

Backtalk doesn't use a pseudo tty, much less a real tty. I can't image any
way that that could happen.

Bleaggh indeed. Sounds like what M-Net was going through a couple of
months ago.

Backtalk question! I entered item #27 but messed up the title. I went
into Backtalk so I could edit the title, and the necessary red button was
there and I got the title change screen. But when I entered the changes,
it said I do not have title change access for that item. Do only fw's
have access to change titles of items? I thought the authors of items
did as well?

response 63 of 274: Mark Unseen   Jan 4 02:33 UTC 1997

Maybe it doesn't work, or is turned off?
janc
response 64 of 274: Mark Unseen   Jan 4 02:37 UTC 1997

Weird. It shouldn't show you the button unless you have the access to perform
the operation. I'll have to check that.

#65,m thats not strange, my backspace key got undefined and I wasnt
able to edit the title at the time I entered it. Thats why I wanted to
change it. I dont know why authors of items shouldnbt be allowed to change
the titles.

(Probably because it would have to be changed to something that's
exactly the same length, or it's really a pain to shift the whole
file up or down to fit.)
kerouac
response 68 of 274: Mark Unseen   Jan 4 15:23 UTC 1997

#67...same EXACT length? oh sheesh, may as well take the command out
if it has that kind of requirement...who would figure that out
janc
response 69 of 274: Mark Unseen   Jan 4 16:58 UTC 1997

(It is a pain to shift the whole file up or down, but Backtalk takes the pain
to do so. If it was working right, it would allow you to change it to
 different lengths.)

I'm getting a strange error when I interrupt and try to post a response.
It says: Pipe interrupt?

PicoSpan is omitting large chunks of text when I read items in Coop.
These chunks include partial and whole lines, and even entire *responses.*
This is the first time I've ever had this problem. Any idea
why?
