Since it was Centrex, we fixed it ourselves, then complained
to our "rep". Hmph!

At today's JCC sale, RickyB donated $65 to Grex. He has no interest
in becoming a member, and asked that if someone else wants to become a
member, but is short on money, that his donation be used to pay for a
year's membership for them. If someone is interested in this, send me
e-mail, and the first person to send me a message requesting it gets the
membership. You'll still have to provide a photocopy of ID to the
treasurer. I'll respond here to announce if it has been claimed, or if
I haven't heard from anyone in a couple weeks, I'll close the offer.

That didn't take long, somebody already requested the membership! :)

Coolness. :) The sale was fun. I picked up a number of things, but not all
from grex. :/

Nominations for Grex's board of directors are now open. The nominiations item
is coop item 131.
If you'd like to vote in the election for Grex's board of directors, this is
a great time to become a member of Grex. Members elect the board. To be
eligible to vote, you need to send in at least 3 months of membership ($18)
and a photocopy of a piece of ID with your name and address on it.

Is a check acceptable, or is a photo ID required?

If you send in a personal check that is pre-printed with your name and
address, you don't need to send photo ID.

Er, ID. Grex *never* requires photo ID.

(I think people tend to confuse "photocopy of ID" with "photo
ID". It's happened before. Grex requires the former under some
circumstances, never the latter.)

Yup, that, and other businesses tend to want photo ID, because usually you're
there in person to write a check or whatever.

Grex is all moved! The move went very smoothly. Ameritech was *very* well
behaved. Thanks to everybody who worked on this move: ajax, blh, gregc,
janc, mdw, remmers, robh, scg, steve, and me. Great job!

Back-pats and Ben-Gay for everyone! I too was surprized that it went so
quickly. (I figured I was giving Ameritech too little credit, I was figuring
Grex would be back by Wednesday at the earliest!) Yipiee!

impressed at how fast this went. Wow! Great job, everyone.

Re 66: This move was a lot simpler than the last one, because last time we
had to build the room before moving in to it. This time the room already
existed. :)

Rane, you're right, this move did go faster.
A big part of the reason was the weather. Last time, we were
moving out from a warehouse, and had to move the Sun-3 from a
loading dock caked with snow. It was also colder than hell, too.
...This last one was a lot easier!

You've probably already figured this out by now, but: Grex's /home disk
crashed early on Saturday morning. Luckily, it had been acting threatening
for a few days before the actual crash occurred, so some smart person made
a backup on Friday. I'm not sure who did the backup, but THANKS to whoever
did it. I think it may have been scg, robh, and STeve. Also thanks to
M-Net, who happened to randomly donate Grex a blank tape at the last JCC
sale, which is the tape we ended up using for the backup.
Grex was down for the weekend, while staff searched for a new disk. STeve
set up Grex to receive e-mail, even though people couldn't log in.
Rob Argy found a good price for HP disks, and by Tuesday morning we had two
new disks in-hand. STeve and Marcus set up the new disk and restored files
to it. Grex re-opened to the public at about 7 this evening.
Whew! Many thanks to everybody who was involved in making and restoring
backups and otherwise helping Grex through its disk crisis!!
