Thursday, November 15 is the LAST DAY to place names in nomination
for the Grex Board of Directors. Nominees then have until the start
of the election on December 1 to accept. See Coop Item 49
(item:coop,49) for details and to nominate somebody.

The polls are now open for voting on a member proposal. See item 57
of the Coop conference (item:coop,57) for discussion of the proposal.
Type "vote" or "proposal" at a standard Unix prompt, or "!vote" or
"!proposal" at most other prompts, to enter the voting booth.
The polls close at the end of the day (EST) on Thursday, Nov. 29.

The polls are now open for the annual Grex Board of Directors election.
Telnet and dialup users can type "vote" at a Unix shell prompt or "!vote"
at most other prompts to see the list of candidates, read their campaign
statements, and vote. On the web, you can do the same by visiting the
URL http://cyberspace.org/cgi-bin/pw/voting-booth .
The polls close at the end of the day (EST) on December 15.

My mistake. He is now.
(People who voted before that was corrected have been notified
so that they can re-vote if they wish.)

BTW, when I tried to access the voting booth, I logged on with my saved
password, but was later given the same login message where my password,
which I had forgotten, needed to be entered manually.

If you are talking about what I think you are talking about, then
probably something redirected you from grex.org to cyberspace.org or
www.grex.org or www.cyberspace.org or whatever. Any change in the
system name will force a relogin when accessing things through the web.
A pretty small glitch and nothing much to be worried about.

I've upgraded Backtalk to version 1.1.7. There has been some serious
reorganization of its guts, and support added for some options
inapplicable to Grex (like using SQL for various databases). The
changes actually visible here are pretty inconsequential.
- Abalone will show more appropriate menu options to anonymous
readers.
- If you click on your own login ID at the head of a response it
will first show you the "as it will appear to others" version not
the edit form.
- Fixed some bugs in abalone's hotlists.
- Better parsing of the Grex conference list.
- Abalone gains "remember" and "forget" commands, which I previously
forgot.
- Backtalk can hide or erase responses in frozen items.
Not much to get excited about, but, hey, I need to test install new
releases somewhere. Complain loudly if there are problems.

I've installed an experimental command line interface to the conferences
called "Fronttalk" (because it is a front-end to Backtalk). See item
130 in the garage conference for more information.

"Fronttalk" is rather cool. It's basically a special-purpose web
browser that doesn't know html but does know how to communicate
with Backtalk. With a few minor code modifications (it's a Perl
program), I was able to get it up and running on my home Linux box
such that I could read Grex conferences (and also HVCN conferences)
with a Picospan-like interface. You can't access other Grex services
(like party) through Fronttalk, but on the other hand there's no
waiting in a telnet queue...

It used to be that you could save an email from pine to an .htm
file and then read it through lynx. Lynx will not read it now.
How can we read .htm files now?

Are you sure that when you saved the email you gave it a name ending in .htm?
Often I forget to do this, then lynx won't read it.
