Re 48 - When I run two screens at once, I turn the help
flag on for only one. It doesn't help with what I'm
doing, since I usually turn the flag on for the screen
I'm reading Usenet in, and nobody can run two Usenet
sessions at once. Mainly I only turn it on in one screen
so I don't get stuck trying to help two people at
exactly the same time.

Valerie, could the percent of time when no helper flags are on be
obtained? Anyway to log helpers ontimes? Your observation is what
I mostly observe (I run the w that shows helper flags when I log in).

At least we have a bonanza of helpers right now - 3. That means that each
will receive (on the average) 1/3 of the calls that one helper would.
Don't take that to imply you are not being useful! You are spreading the
work among more volunteers, which helps both the helpees and helpers.

If I turn on my help flag, does that mean I have to receive "regular"
write requests, too? Or will I only see help reqests (as in 'mesg n h')?

I'm in party all the time (with flag on...now) and wonder if you would like me
to drop hints to users there about becoming helper?

You might suggest it, by and large I think the folks in party
are either experienced enough to know about being a helper,
or use Menu or Lynx and know about "writing help" anyway.

It seems to be working now, but I'm not going to reproduce the results of
        !who -T

How are we doing for helpers these days?

Someone wanted to know how to specify character mode.
If someone does write help, I reply with jot.
That will use character mode unless they have some kind of preference
set. My helper flag is always on but I never get messages.
