If you know what's good for you you won't touch Tories with a bargepole.

Also, the NDP *do* support lowering the lowest personal income rate and
increasing the personal tax exemption.

So, uh, basically you have no fucking clue what you're talking about.

re resp:10

The lowering of the personal income tax rate and the increase in the basic
personal credit amount are policies which were introduced by (surprise!) the
federal (Liberal) government in November.

Jack Layton said he opposed the new tax cuts introduced by the the Liberals
and the Conservatives during the last election campaign.

I sure hope you're not one of those awful people who cheat the tax man,
scholar. Being an NDP voter and all.

wrong.

Also, it can never be forgotten that this conservative Mr. Harper is going
to:

a) Increase spending by billions of dollars;
b) Decrease the total amount of revenue collected by the Federal Government,
a move which when combined with a) is almost sure to bring an end to the years
of balanced budgets we have received from the Liberals;
c) Oppressively raise the legal age of consent from 14 to 16;
d) Attack the right of fags to marry each other as soon as it seems plausible
that such a motion could pass;
e) Increase personal income taxes for all citizens, but especially for those
who can least afford it;
f) Give $1200 per child under six years of age, with no way to ensure the
handout isnt excessive, too little, or even actually spent on childcare;
g) Refuse to take a strong stand to keep Quebec within the Federation,
including by failing to scrap the Not Withstanding Clause;
h) Backing out of the Kyoto Accord, an agreement we as a nation signed on to
with the international community, in favour of a silly local solution which
will no doubt be much weaker; and
i) Forget about the Kelowna accord, depriving our aboriginal communities of
much needed and much deserved benefits.

Is this really worth a cut in taxes that will cause you to pay more taxes?

re #18
Scalihirohito, no doubt man..

My aunt went in for pneumonia right before New Year's and they shoved a tube
down her throat claiming her throat was constricting her breathing. In the
process, they ruptured her esophagus. This was done WITHOUT local or
painkillers nor doctors. All the docs were out of the hospital until January
3rd. No joke..and this was the high end hospital in town..not some dive.
So she basically sat there with killer pain for a week and a hardcore
breathing apparatus.
Let me back this up a little. When we saw my aunt in October, she was up all
night coughing. She'd been to the doctor and he gave her heart medicine
claiming the cough was caused by heart medicine but its the best heart
medicine he had. The doc never thought to check for pneumonia.
Honestly, the docs dont' do shit unless you grease their palms with cash.
Nurses and orderlies? Forgetaboutit! You have to have someone bring you
clean laundry and food from home..and even then, you gotta watch out for
your stuff not to get stolen. You need shots or meds? They give the
prescription to whoever comes to visit you so they can spend all day
hitting every pharmacy in town to see if its available.
The whole medical system over there is a fucking nightmare.
If you can't afford your own personal in-home doctor then its the better
than nothing...but not by much. People don't go to the hospital unless
its life or death sickness cuz otherwise they'll leave worse off than when
they got there.
If we ever get a national healthcare in this country, leave it to one or two
terms with a GOP President and congress to fuck it all up like they have
the VA healthcare for veterans.
Don't like what I'm saying about the GOP? Go fuck yourselves. Its true.
Coward president and his draft dodging cronies shouldn't be allowed to
wiretap let alone send troops into death's doorstep in the name of
spreading democracy cuz they live in the high society and have no idea
what democracy really means.
So here I am with my wife's godmother/aunt dead cuz she couldn't drink
nor eat due to a whole they wouldn't operate on cuz the meds the original
doc gave her weakened her heart too much. This is the aunt that took
care of my son for 6 months. If it were America, we'd sue for malpractice
but as it is what can you do besides put a contract on their lives?

re 14 Maybe you should read my response.

re 15 Those are all things he wants to do, but i'm not too sure he's going
to go through with all his 'conservative' acts. Remember ; it's a minority
government, and the house still has to vote on the budget. You can rest
assured that we Canadians will be adequately taxed.

As for Mr. Harper's super right-wing idealisms, I'm also hoping the minority
situation will hold down his hatred for fags, marijuana, and support for the
war effort in Iraq. Some of his ideas I'm OK with, but overall, I'd think
he'd be a pretty scary guy to have as a 'dictator'.

Thanks. Its been a rough ride for the family.
It gives an acute perspective on the pitfalls of too much socialized
medicine..but at the same time gives an appreciation for not having had to
watch our own country crawl away from Communism. Instead, we watch our
country crawl into nationalism with one jackboot in front of the other. That
brings with it its own horrors. People aren't even the least bit shaken by
bin Laden's latest memo.
