re #44
Why not alias bbs to ft then so folks stop using picospan?

That has been discussed several times. Recently I got the impression that
such an alias switch was "imminent"...

Just had a strange encounter with "mail" which wouldn't clear up until I
logged out and logged in again. Included mail deleting a message I did not
explicitly delete, not echoing commands at the "&" prompt, and dumping core
when doing "send brk" from telnet.

I don't like or use Backtalk either. I have used it a few times when telnet
access was down. Didn't like it. Don't like most GUI apps, don't like mice.
I prefer text based, and not text based frontend to web backends. Why put
on another layer when I can access without it. I prefer keyboard to mouse.
I can and do use GUIs and mouse when I need/have to, but hate being forced
to. Don't blog either, I don't see any sense in having my private life out
there for everyone to see and comment on and have no desire to read anyone
else's either.

I don't even like video games. Blogs are nonsense to me, too.

The word I find appropriate for blogs is "tedious". Random thinking online,
especially at length, is utterly boring. The advantage of conferencing,
as in Grex, is that the expression of thoughts is generally quite brief,
and perhaps brief rejoinders.

Interesting. I love reading blogs. I am always amazed at how many deeply
interesting people there are in the world.

I like backtalk too. Coincidence? :)

I run conf, not bbs. Is that alias linked to picospan (must be, as
everything looks the same here)?

I don't understand "l" - type HELP for help

response 62 of 457: Mark Unseen   Mar 31 03:32 UTC 2005

FrontTalk is seriously broken in a number of ways, from going
between conferences with a pager running, to failing to "respond <item>"
from the Ok: prompt, to not displaying the item header when commanded
at the RFP prompt... oh, a zillion ways.

How do I get AWAY from it until it's fixed?

And I can't "set reload" OR abort. Are all of the usual methods
of managing one's read-item list borked in FT?

Yes, I'm pissed off. This should not have been foisted on me
without warning. I have no idea how much damage has occurred,
but I'm already very unhappy about it and Grex's management.

Type picospan instead of bbs.

response 65 of 457: Mark Unseen   Mar 31 04:55 UTC 2005

I've changed "bbs" back to "picospan".
gelinas
response 66 of 457: Mark Unseen   Mar 31 05:03 UTC 2005

BTW, "set reload" doesn't work in fronttalk because fronttalk closes the
backtalk connection as/before it shows you the text.

I agree that bbs should not have been peremptorily set to ft without
determining user preferences. Experimental projects should be optional, not
defaults.

Wasn't cross, who is a new member of the staff, warned against acting without
taking into consideration the advice of more experienced staffers?
