Actually, the more I think about it, the reason the pope stays sane, and
it's harder for fundamentalist ministers to do so, is that the pope has to
work his way up through the ranks of his organization before he becomes
the head. So he sees things from many sides, and he has a chance to
mature before he gets put in charge.

I think my point was: if you obtain your position by pure charisma, and not
through education and compromise and generally having to get along with
people, you probably have less of a stable base to stand on.
