I drove home early and paid for downtown parking to give a local
CD shop a little business. I stormed out of there because they were
gouging on a particular desirable CD, charging almost twice what I
can get it for on the web, and $8 more than any retail shop
I've seen. I ranted at more length in the music conference.

be getting sick right around now.

Well, the good news is that I got drugs from the doctor yesterday, the bad
news is that I am truly sick and that I'm supposed to rest and only taking
my meds and taking care of myself will get me better. However, my left ear
is about half clogged up, so that things are sounding funny and I continute
to cough and hack. But I'm on the drug. It will work. Honest.

Much, MUCH work to do. Very behind on thesis, and I missed the deadline
to apply for May graduation (d'oh!) but this may be good. I hate not
being able to get everything done in a weekend. I must give up my
procrastinating ways before I take a permanent trip to psychoville.

already there...Last night I couldn't sleep for the fourth or fifth night
in a row. Finally got to sleep, only to wake up at 6 a.m. with a hellacious
tummyache. Has anyone here tried sleeping pills, natural, OTC or presciption?
Advice?

Usually when I can't sleep, the best advice I doctor gave me was don't. Don't
take any pills, but do something that relaxes you. Watch a movie you like,
read a good book, take a bath even. I don't go for meds that force me to
sleep unless I have to (like with my previous back troubles) Maybe you just
need a vacation (heh...)

no question about needing a vacation...I've tried lots of things, including
relaxing various ways, exercise (which I think helps, but it has to be
timed right with respect to when you go to bed), etc. The problem is that
the less I can sleep the more anxious I get about needing to go to sleep,
which obviously sucks. My current desperation remedy is rum, and I figure
that almost anything would be better/healthier than that. :( I should be
okay now (no reasons to get up early this weekend), but I'm worried about
this recurring--I can't function like this. Plus I run the risk of being
strangled by a friend or coworker, any of whom would be justified in doing
so.

What I use for very mild cases of sleeplessness are the herb Valerian,
and for more serious cases, .25-1.0 mg of melatonin. Also, be careful
about evening -- and maybe afternoon -- caffeine intake, including colas.

Anne - considering I've been hacking and sneezing all over our apartment since
Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if you got sick. Sorry. =(

Jenn: I just learned that my "coughing phase" of the cold was nothing more
than asthma attacks. (sigh) So they prescribed another inhaler for it.

Well...I fucked up...again. I am now $30 short for getting my new place.
Me and my mutual hate for math messed up the calculating and I am going to
be short for the move in costs. I got my meds, i got gas in the car (because
I had run out the day before) and I got stuff for me to drink this thing out
of me. Come to find out my $60 cushion for my paycheck was based upon my
pervious bi-weekly total. (see, where I work, they take all your deductions
out of the last paycheck of the month, so this paycheck is smaller than the
one I will be getting 5 days after I move.) So i go to find what I can sell,
adn the computer stuff I'd been holding onto for a rainiy day...nada. They
only do store credit now. Otherwise I'd be fine. Comics, music, books,
maybe, but they're not worth nearly what they were paid for nor what they'd
get at a convention. So I'm evaluating what i can do, and I don't like the
looks of it. I'll end up having to ask my dad, who was already kind enough
to do everything else for me. And that miss-calculation? I thought I had
$60, I had $22 and change.

$30 isn't a lot of money to go ask to borrow. I'm guessing that as requests
to parents go, it's pretty small. If not that, I'm sure you have friends who
could spare $30 for a few weeks.

yes, actually, I am happy to report that a friend in Montana is sending me
some to cover it. She can't get most rollplaying game books in her town and
doesn't like ordering off the internet or ebay, so she is sending me the
money, and when I get paid next i will buy and send back the books she
desires. She's awesome and i'm going to send her something special with the
books as a thank you.

Grr. I'm time-constrained at the moment. And to top it all off, someone did
something that she *knows* she shouldn't have done, flouted instructions, and
did it anyway. And it directly affected me. Grr.

So, my wonderful little tiny company where nobody counts your vacation days
and nobody blinks when I show up at noon or leave for a few hours during the
day was acquired by a Giant Corporation (tm). Everybody says this won't
affect the way we get work done, much, but I'm suspicious. Ah, well,
shitloads of money covers a lot of ills...

Truly irritating problem sets to grade. (Why am I, an organic student,
stuck grading sets for a bioinorganic class? See earlier comment about
I'm reliable ;P)
