resp:1 - Actually, there were no remote board members when I was on the
board. I dont have a problem with having remote board members though. I
think it can work.

resp:2 - I would like to use the statement in #0. If you could put that
into the vote program for me, I would *really* appreciate it! Thanks.

resp:3 -Thanks!

While I wouldn't be so harsh as Jamie, this statement and some
responses to it does disturb me.

And your response is another one of them. You guys are some of the
biggest hypocrites around, and what takes the cake is that you refuse
to see it. (But then if you did, you wouldn't be hypoctrites...)

"Hypocrite" is a pretty strong word.

Not sure what you find "disturbing" about slynne's statement.
Seems pretty innocuous to me. Basically she's saying that she
doesn't see a need for major changes to Grex. Perhaps you
disagree, but do you find every statement with which you
disagree "disturbing", or everyone who does not also disagree
a hypocrite?

response 13 of 35: Mark Unseen   Dec 8 22:38 UTC 2003

No, it's not that she doesn't see any major need for change. I can understand
that. It's just a very pandering type of statement. I'd have to read it agian
to tell you exactly what disturbs me about it, but not right now.

And the hypocrite referance wasn't about slynne's statement. Her statement
doesn't work with me, but definitely not because it's hypocritical. However,
I've perceived some of the other statements to be hypocritical, at least from
what I've seen here on coop and the bbs in general.

I was assuming "hypocrite" referred to other people, not slynne.
Still don't understand where you're coming from.

To me personally, saying that Grex is in pretty good shape and doesn't
need large changes is anything but vacuous. While I've served on board,
there have been at least a few times (and it seems like a lot, though
I'm probably exaggerating in memory) where it seemed like board was
under a lot of pressure to Do Something, even the wrong thing, just for
appearance's sake. Thing is, Grex *is* in pretty good shape, and
nothing is often the best thing for board to do. There haven't been
many major changes to the way Grex works in a long time, and the few
changes we have had are things that were proposed and voted on by the
membership, not the board. I think that's great. "I won't rock the
boat" is, as far as I'm concerned, a great campaign platform for a board
member.

I didn't find slynne's statement pandering. I think "I'll support the
status quo" is a reasonable campaign position. I thought mary's
Commandments were a bit over the top, but I'm sure other people find
them witty.

It is honestly how I feel. I think things around here are run pretty
well. I dont have any great desire to change anything and probably
would be very resistant to any big changes. If you are a person who
wants big changes, I am probably not the candidate for you. However, if
you like things the way they are, then vote for me.

Lynne, great as Grex is, there are still some controversies around
here, which you might become have to be involved with as a Board
member. Have you any views about any of them? Some examples are
NextGrex, co-location and phone lines.

What other candidates are you going to vote for, and why?

So much for the secret ballot ;)

response 22 of 35: Mark Unseen   Dec 10 16:32 UTC 2003

I dont have any really strong feelings about NextGrex. Like everyone, I
would like to have it online sooner rather than later. However, I
recognize that we are dealing with volunteers.

I think co-location can be a very good thing. I would like to see grex
head in that direction. It probably will help reduce costs and that
might be necessary. However, I dont think it is something that needs to
be rushed into.

I believe it is important at least for now for Grex to offer dial up
access. I like that the phone lines have been reduced though. This was
a very appropriate response.

I am not going to endorse any other board candidates at this time
because if I were to do so and then someone else were to be elected, I
would have to work with that person and I would rather that there
werent hard feelings between me and anyone I was serving with on the
board. I will say that grex is very fortunate to have a very good crop
of candidates. If I had been able to, I would have voted for every one
running except for one person.

I asked for Lynne's choices because she hasn't said much that
distinguishes her from some of the other candidates. I agree we have a
terrific slate of candidates. I thought it was reasonable to ask for
some further information about her views.

I also think it's reasonable for her to not want to endorse
candidates. I don't endorse candidates, either.
