You think for a second that the NSA would run such an operation?
There are several under DHS that I would think of first.

Have you *read* 1984, Richard? Of course I think the monitoring described
in the article is very very scary. But the woman quoted damages her
credibility when she says it's worse than what's described in 1984.

The whole Bush ignoring the Secret Courts deal tells you loud and
clear that the NSA runs such an operation. The Court was objecting to
such an operation being run, and Bush chose to ignore the Court.

In fact what she said was that what was going on is far beyond
anything Orwell imagined. She didn't say "worse", she simply
said "beyond" And since that book was written many decades ago,
Orwell could not know how extensive the scientific technology we have
at our disposal for such surveillance now is. Her statement is
accurate, and yes I have read the book.

Come on Richard, that's bullshit and you know it. She meant to imply
"worse" when she said "way beyond".
Where did this article come from? Has there been confirmation of this info
in the mainstream press?

re #6
Just because someone doesn't give an opinion on something doesn't mean they
are actually doing what is in question.

I don't think that is an assumption you can make. "Beyond" could also
be taken for BETTER, if you support such surveillance.

Capital Hill, call it the left leaning version of Roll Call Newspaper.
Perfectly respectable.

Re resp:3: "1984" was as much about controlling thought crimes as it
was about snooping. To get the terrible authoritarian dystopia in that
book, you need both. The snooping also hasn't reached nearly the level
in that book, where there were cameras in people's houses being
monitored by the government.
Personally, I was disappointed when the TIA dropped their old logo,
with the "all-seeing eye" looking down at the Earth. It was just so
dead on. ;)
