Could we decouple the automation from the process?

This is turning out to be an expensive experiment. I might
be a lone voice here but I'd suggest our organization isn't
the best candidate for online transactions. As expensive as
this problem is it could have been a whole lot worse.
We are putting ourselves at risk for not a whole lot of gain,
if any.

As I said in agora, 24 - 48 hour lag is certainly reasonable delay.

I think that if we can find a cost-effective way to do credit card
transactions online which allows for the treasurer to approve before charges
are incurred, then that's the way to go.

What about PayPal? I don't think they have a charge added, but Grex is
required to have a credit card to create an account. www.x.com would have
the info.

You do not need a credit card to create a PayPal account.
It does not look like this probem has anything to do with Telnet through.

No, sorry I brought this up and confused things.
"Never mind."

The problem with paypal (which is why I dropped my advocacy of it before) is
that they don't accept international credit cards, which was what the credit
card system was set up to do in the first place.

One thing that has been proposed is that we set things up so that the
authorization isn't attempted until Greg approves it. I think this
would completely solve the problem, if Charge Solutions can set things
up that way for us.

If not, we might want to look at credit card systems that don't assume that
all transactions are happenign through a web browser. We could then have a
web interface that could send the card numbers to a human, who could run them
through the manual system just as somebody taking orders for stuff over the
phone would, thus filtering out unwanted transactions.
I still think, though that we can't be the only ones who have encountered this
problem. There must be some online credit card processing companies that have
come up with a way around it.
