I foresee a week of not enough sleep...

Also, I get results back from the Doctor about my knee tomorrow, and I kinda
don't wanna hear what the bad news is..

Well, I'm pretty sure that I need to get a new mattress set. <sighs>
For too many days in a row I have woken up with a sore back. It's
making me only *slightly* grumpy...

response 380 of 691: Mark Unseen   Nov 13 14:16 UTC 2000

Okay, I'm pissed...
a) This ... THING in my throat/head/chest is playing with my mind now. And
I thought that I had a doctor's appt today, and it turns out to be Thursday,
so while it got better for a day, now it's decending into icky again. <cough
cough hack>
b) Parking. I KNOW it's raining. So what. I work for a facist institution
that has people pay for parking. Fine. I get it. I don't mind paying to
park near where I work rather than the hell of bussing in. But today was it.
My lot is the second to highest lot. Well, people with "lesser" stickers were
playing "leap car" for a friend of theirs who was coming but wasn't there.
So I stalked a person to get a space, she waited and gave it to someone else.
Then they waited and gave to someone else, and then finally the real person
came. ARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Finally a nice person came out and
pointed to where her car was and I was able to get a space.
c) My soon to be roommate has left the lights on at night, in his room and
in the entire downstairs for 3 nights in a row. I was too tired to notice
then because my door was partly closed and I was sick/exausted, but I did
notice them when I got up this morning. (that is soon to be ex-roommate)
I was wondering why the electric bill is always so high. Also he's been
turning up the heat, since he's cold, rather than checking the windows, or
putting on more clothes. Damn damn damn. If you don't have money, don't run
up my bills!

<stumbles off to a meeting grumbling>

mooncat, get a futon! most mattresses arent firm enough. A good
futon will do wonders for your back

re 380: When you move out, make sure the electric, phone, etc
is not in your name.
ashke
response 383 of 691: Mark Unseen   Nov 13 17:46 UTC 2000

Already made the calls to have them out of my name the day I move and in my
new place when I move. Also phone was never in my name, so if he doesn't pay
me for the final gas and electric, then he gets the final phone bill all to
himself. So there. <thhhpppppppTTTTTTT!!!!!!!! - amied at former roomate
and not present CF company>
But on a positive note, when I did the gas and electric thing, and my dad is
hooking up the phone, I did the cable stuff, so I'm gonna be all set when I
move in.

Richard- I may get a futon mattress, however I'm NOT buyng a whole new
bed frame/set-up. My frame and headboard (which matches other
furniture in my room) are just fine. I just inherited an old soft bed
and an ancient box spring, so... why pay for more than I need? Besides
the fact that I can't afford a whole new bed set-up and I have at least
two (that I know of) wholesale type mattress dealers within five
minutes of where I live. I've never had any trouble with a normal bed,
the one I have now just should have been 'retired' years ago.

I love my bed and in fact bought it at one of those wholesale places about
3 years ago...

can always call 1-800-dialamattress, they deliver anywhere in the US--
nice to know you can get a mattress in short order with just one phone call
delivered right to your door :)

For those considering early (ie prior to age 40) mammograms, please
be aware that there is a lot of controversy about them. There is
a strong possibility that they can actually cause cancer. There
are problems both from the increased radiation exposure, as well as
physical damage to breast tissue from the way the breasts are
smashed flat to be xrayed. I am exploring the possibilities of
breast thermography for myself. It is both more accurate and less
damaging than mammography. Unfortunately, I will probably have to
go to Chicago to have it done, since I haven't heard of anyplace in
Michigan doing it yet.

Richard - it's best to try the mattress to make sure it won't hurt your back.
Ordering one over the phone would be weird.

Mary - keep an umbrella in your car for when it rains and you have to walk
more than a block or two.

Okay, this nasty icky sinus, chest, head nonsense is killing me, AND it was
a horrid day at work. It took all my strength not to scream at people and
throw things. My boss noticed how sick I looked (not to mention my horrible
stuffed-up voice) and sent me home a bit early. I'm now drugged, eating beef
stew, and about to take a bath. <sigh>

Oh Anne - why don't we see about putting a board between the mattress and box
spring before the cash is spent? That tends to work with old couches and
such. I'll see if my dad has some scrap wood about that size.

I got a new mattress a few months ago. I went to a mattress store with the
intent of lying down on several mattresses, finding the one I liked, and then
ordering it over the phone. The store turned out to have a really helpful
salesman, so after he found me a mattress that fit exactly what I was looking
for I decided to buy it from him instead of mail ordering it.

It's a Sealy Posturepedic of some sort, and is pretty firm. The back problems
I'd been having for years went away after I started sleeping on it.

That's the kind of thing I want.

Sarah- well, I still have the slats that were supposed to go with the
other frame... May try those... <ponders>

Based on my personal experience, you'll do better with a full sheet
of plywood between the mattress and the box spring. of course, given what I'm
going through with MY old mattress, and a at least slightly damaged back, I
advive a new mattress if you can possibly afford it.

I figure sleeping on the floor is probably more beneficial than the
mattress i have...

Bummed because Rhiannon has walking pneumonia, yet kept saying "no, I don't
want to go to the doctor".... until today, when she tried to faint at work
and they called the ambulance! She's on antibiotics and an inhaler, and on
orders to actually EAT something.

In response to the earlier mention on parking.. Considering I work for MSU
Parking and Security... I can tell you it's a bitch, even for people who have
the in's with everything...ANd checking permits in rain and show is bullshit..
And I've gotta do it all winter... and people are notorious for putting their
permits wherever they want on their windshields. when they all specifically
say, like most #$%#$% permits, affix to lower left, drivers side of
windsheild.. Nurgh

response 395 of 691: Mark Unseen   Nov 14 08:56 UTC 2000

I generally refuse to put permits on the drivers side of the windshield, to
avoid obstructing the view.

oh....and my windows are *really* drafty. My room is an easy 10 degrees
colder than the rest of the apt.

response 399 of 691: Mark Unseen   Nov 14 14:18 UTC 2000

(I thought my windows were drafty too, until I realized I'd left them open.
my roomie has a habit of turning on the heat for even the briefest of cold
spells, instead of not walking around in his undies.)
