It's been a week with no responces to this item. What have we been missing?
Any developments in the "How soon do we have to move?" and "Where are we going
to go?" questions that have happened recently?

My understanding is that several members of the board and staff are planning
to get together Tuesday with a rep from a very promising place -- that meeting
should have been today but was called off by the rep. Presumable we'll hear
more when there's more to tell.

THere are several things going on, but they are all happening behind the
scenes.

We need to meet with the Red Cross controller to discuss the space
requirements, and to get confirmation that said space really will be available
to us. We need to meet with them, but the meeting has been delayed. That was
what Misti was referring to.

At the same time other staffers are discussing other alternative locations
with special advantages which are perhaps even less likely to work, but if just
one of them pans out, it could work out to be better than a free site.
(Some of these discussions are sensitive at the moment.)
We are trying not to leave any stones unturned.

There will be another meeting of the building dept appeal board, and a
determination may be made at that time. Meanwhile the board has decided that
we need to move when our lease expires (11/1/96) anyway. So it is not as
urgent as it was when this item was started, but plans to move will have to
gel in the next month or so, so that the move can take place.

That is, the Grex board has decided that we need to move. The Building Board
hasn't made any decisions yet.

relocation. Thanks!

We are not under intense time pressure, like we thought we were 6 weeks ago.
We will move by Halloween. That's now a known fact. We don't know where yet,
but we have several likely candidates.

Glad to hear there's a respite. So the Red Cross location still isn't
definite?

Among other things, they're checking with their insurance company
and/or the city to make sure safety issues are not a problem. The
room is in a basement, a couple doors and a fair distance away from
the only stairway out.

response 317 of 561: Mark Unseen   Aug 22 13:53 UTC 1996

That was never a problem for the HVARA shack. Speaking of which,
is that the room you'd be using? THere is some high-capacity
emergency power wiring into there, which might be of use for
keeping Grex up and running in event of a disaster. ;-)

response 318 of 561: Mark Unseen   Aug 24 15:46 UTC 1996

It is in a different room, and it will not be a problem unless our room will
have people in it for a significant anmount of the time. How much is that?
we don't know yet. This would be a problem for the radio people, too, but I
guess there's almost never anyone in their room.

response 319 of 561: Mark Unseen   Aug 24 18:16 UTC 1996

How would it be a problem for the Arrow? I'm the president and as far as
I have read, I totally support grex's move to the RC.
You're right about our room never being occupied. Only a handful of people
have the combination for the door, myself included.

response 320 of 561: Mark Unseen   Aug 24 21:28 UTC 1996

I'm not sure I believe this is a problem. I suspect the fire code wouldn't
allow 30 people to be in the basement, because in case of a fire it would
clearly be hard for them to exit through that stairway. But I can't imagine
that four or five people would be considered a problem, and we would very
rarely have more than that many people there. I think we should tell RC what
are usage is expected to look like, and let them double-check with the fire
marshall (as they said they would). I suspect that this will work out.

I called him a few days ago in response to something that he e-mailed to us,
but it did take us a while to get back to him on that. We need to be better
about that sort of thing.
