I was channel surfing Monday evening when I happened upon
a comedian doing a show on HBO. He's an Englishman who
describes himself as an executive transvestite and his
show was something like, "Dressed to Kill"; his name was
maybe Eddie Izzard?
Now, I'm not much into stand-up comedians and I'd only rank two
as great, Lenny Bruce and Robin Williams. But this Izzard
person is pretty darn good. Does anyone know how long he's
been around and anything more about him?

Eddie Izzard has been around for a while and shows up now and then
in an occasional film (the last one I can remember was "Velvet Goldmine",
which I would not recommend..)

Yes, his name is Eddie Izzard. I caught the same special on HBO, by accident

I think that HBO show has been around a couple of times already.
I recall seeing it or something like it awhile back.

Thanks, Mickey, I'll check out those sites.
You know, sexuality is funny stuff. When I first stopped
at HBO and saw this guy, my first reaction was that he looked
like a freak show. But after listening to him for the next
hour and enjoying his clever wit I found myself thinking of
him (her) as quite a sexy piece of work.

while never having seen him myself, That actor Guy does an imitation of
Eddie Izzard- which is amusing and makes me want to see more.
Something about being in the army and hiding make-up in a squirrel
hole? <grins>
Oh... And I don't recommend "Velvet Goldmine" either... It's not too
horrible exactly... And you do get to see... a lot of Ewan McGregor
(doing his Iggy Pop imitation).

I don't know exactly what IPC$ is, but if you can't open it, Windows doesn't
let you browse the machine to see what shares are available.

I LOVE EDDIE!! Sorry... Don't mind me. I can just do the entire "dressed to
kill" show from memory, that all... :)
The thing of it is, although his trans jokes are funny, I think he's more
funny for his history jokes-- he does wonderful versions of the origins of
the church of england "I'll call it The Crazy Bastard Religion! Sir, how bout
the church of england? Yes, that's much better." and just religion in general:
"[as God] Jexus Christ, what on earth is going on down there?" "[Jesus]Don't
use my name in vain dad." "Jeezy Creezy, what on earth is going on down
there?" "And don't call me Jeezy Creezy! I told them to hang out and be
groovy..." "And what does the holy ghost have to say about all this?" "Oh,
he's useless dad, he spends all day running around with a sheet on his head"

How do I change my charset to 8859-1? I read something about editing .cshrd
to add the line setenv LC_CTYPE iso_8858_1. I keep getting little messages
at the top of my mail saying that the mail is in this charset but I am not.
How do I edit .cshrc. I tried edit .cshrc and was told how many lines and
characters were in it, but nothing was displayed. Also I see what should be
a letter a as a Greek beta when using lynx, and this should fix that.

Sindi, are you familiar with either vi or pico? If so, use one of them
to edit your .cshrc. At grex's % prompt, enter either
vi .cshrc
or
pico .cshrc
At a bbs prompt, enter
!vi .cshrc
or
!pico .cshrc

Thanks, that was a dumb error on my part (I do use pico but sometimes forget
where I am). I inserted the relevant line, logged out and back in, and now
my e-mail tells me that the following message is in UTF-8 or KOI8-R and 'Your
display is set for ISO-8859-1'. I still see a Greek beta instead of an a
in an e-mail I was sent. The rest of the mails, presumably in 8850-1, do not
give any such message.

will save logging off and then back in.

Next dumb question. I have (had) a nice web page on grex. Then I fiddled
around with the 'make your own home page on grex' program on the menu from
lynx. Now my home page reads "Welcome to my Home Page......this is a
prototype'. How do I get the old page back? It is still in my www directory
as index.htm.(My response, in Backtalk, says it is 318 of 317.) Why are all
the Post Preview etc. in backtalk in graphics, without an Alt command? I had
to enable graphics to post this.

I just answered the question. In my www directory I found index.htm (the file
I wrote) and also index.html (Welcome to my...). Luckily I had named my .htm
so it was not overwritten. I am keeping backups.

The "mkhomepage" appears not to overwrite index.html if you already
have a file with that name.

Is there some easy way to fix the program so as not to work at all if you
already have an .htm file in www? Or at least ask if you want the .html file
to be put there as well?

I'm not sure who wrote mkhomepage, but it might have been srw,
or possible robh. You might want to email them with your question,
since I don't think they read this item.
There are actually six different filenames that Grex's webserver
will recognize as a "home page". In order of priority, they are
index.shtml, index.html, home.html, welcome.html, homepage.html,
and index.htm.
