Grex would have to accept a donation of equipment for the donor to claim
a tax deduction. (No, you can't just give your junk to Grex and claim
a deduction....)

re 31: Does that mean that PayPal will take $2.01 out of
$20.00?

(It does take the announced pledges back up to an even dollar.)

resp:36 explains my twisted reasoning. I wanted to make the announced
pledges an even dollar amount, and 17 is a good number, don't you
think? :) (It's about all I can afford right now.)
regarding resp:35 ... no, PayPal charges Grex 2.9% + $0.30 ... so I
figure that my PayPal transfer will need to be $18.84 in order to give
Grex $17.99.

I figure Mickey is just factoring the exchange rate into his
contribution.

Does Paypal take much of a cut? I haven't paid attention to the
costs, but have made two payments to Grex via Paypal recently. I
could have sent checks instead I suppose.

Mickey stated Paypal's current cut correctly in #37 - $.30 + 2.9%. So they
take $2.04 out of a $60 donation, or $3.20 out of a $100 donation.

(Michael here) What kind of machine are you looking for? I might be able
to find you a used Sparc 20 system from the University, if that would do.
From your budget, however, I assume you're looking at a new Sun server or
Intel box to run Linux or BSD on. Am I correct?

There is a lot of discussion about machines in the garage conference. We're
looking at OpenBSD on a new x86-compatible AMD machine.

Right, there is an ongoing discussion of what to buy in coop item 176, which
is linked from the garage conference.

I (or SCS) will donate a Sony 52x IDE CD-ROM drive and Sony 1.44 Floppy Drive.
(Both brand new and not yet touched by human hands on this continent.)
