Well, I logged in and got the "groupie>" prompt and had to dial "telnet grex"
in order to get a prompt, from there, it works fine. Is that the right thing
to do...or am I (in a sense) tying up two lines or something like that?

No, that's the right thing to do.

I found and fixed the problem. I'm not sure if ti was a case of groupie
losing a setting, or me not setting it right in the first place. It was the
same port that was previously displaying the menu, so I may have only fixed
part of the misconfiguration then.

Groupie sent me straight to a login prompt. It's working great at the moment.

Oops, it just gave me the groupie> prompt. It looks like it didn't save the
changes I made earlier. I changed it again, and it looks like it did save
it this time. I also think I understand why it didn't save it the first time.

i played wth the groupie> help screens for a while.. then decided
to telnet grex.org which worked just fine.

it's when i get an absolutely blank screen (cursor at 0,0) that
baffles me- -what then?

I think at that point it's just waiting for Grex to respond and open the
telnet session.

Groupie is now running the latest version of the Chase Iolan operating system,
rather than the several year old version it came with. Hopefully that should
help things.

When I get a blank screen, I type something in to see waht I get. often I
get garbled garbage. Occasionally I type in my login onto a blank screen,
press enter, and magically get a "senna's password:" prompt. It varies.

Last time I dialed in through groupie it hung up on me before I got all the
way to a csh prompt. The time before that it froze before echoing the "c"
in "janc" while I was logging in. Groupie doesn't seem to like me.

I've been having repeated problems using the reset command to fix my term
settings on grex when I dail into grex... I think it is still set to the
old parity...

This is short notice, but following tradition -- since tomorrow
(Tuesday, July 15) is the eve of the Art Fair in Ann Arbor --
Mary and I will be hanging out at a restaurant in downtown A2
watching folks prepare for Wednesday's chaos. Any Grexers who
care to are welcome to join us and share in the calm before the
storm.

This year we'll be at Grizzly Peak Brewing Co, 120 West Washington,
7 p.m. Be there or be unFair.

That's Tuesday, July 15.

Wish I could, Remmers. Already committed for tomorrow night. Parking
downtown was really easy today, though.

I would like to announce that I have drawn some replacement buttons for
Backtalk's Pistachio interface. These are more 3-dimensional, and we
plan to replace the current ones.

First I will change the button menu for fairwitnesses so that they cam
select the new ones. I will also change the default buttons at that
time.

I will do this soon, but not tonight, as it has gotten too late.

If you want a sneak preview, you can check out backtalk on HVCN, or else
look at these buttons (active and disabled) in your browser
http://www.hvcn.org/hvcnconf/image/pistachio/bgn/nextitem.gif
http://www.hvcn.org/hvcnconf/image/pistachio/ggn/nextitem.gif

coming soon, in a variety of colors.

Ouch, this was certainly the wrong time for that to happen. Might be worth
paying someone to fix it.

Attendees at the Grizzly Peak Pre-Art Fair Soiree were mary,
mjb (from M-Net), remmers, scg, tao, and tpryan. A pleasant time
was had. I recommend the summer wheat brew.
