Though we aren't required to nominate people for particular positions,
you might keep in mind that we need a new person for the hardest job on
Grex: treasurer. None of the three board members staying on are
interested in the job, so it'd be nice to find someone among the
candidates willing and able to treasure.

I second Eric Bassey, who has showed up for several board meetings already
without being on the board.

Drift: Does MI law governing an organization such as grex/cyberspace
dictate that the org's treasurer be an elected position?

No, I don't think so. Grex's bylaws require it however. The bylaws can
be amended by member vote, so this could be changed in the future if
folks want to.

Well, another year, another declination. I appreciate the support, and will
consider the Grex board in the future, but I'm still not in a position to help
this way this year. Thanks, remmers. Maybe next time.

Whoever takes aruba's place as treasurer will be stepping into the
shoes of a giant.

Re #32: That's very kind of you to say, Dave. I don't want to give the
impression that being treasurer is impossible, though, or even very hard. It
mostly just requires someone who is careful, honest, and reasonably
dependable. It does take some time, but it doesn't have to take over your
life.

Are there any age restrictions to being on the board?
Second question - if a check was mailed November 4, from A2, is there a
reasonable chance that it would make it to Grex HQ in time?

I was the second minor to be on the board, but at some point after I turned
18 somebody informed us that having minors on the board was illegal. So, at
this point, you have to be at least 18 to be on the board, unfortunately.

Re #38: If you mail a check today I should pick it up on Monday the 8th.
Steve is correct thought that the bottom line, when Valerie investigated it,
was that minors couldn't serve as board members.

Well I am tickled that I was nominated even if it was followed by a tooth and
claw argument about just about everything. Unfortunatly I am eligible as
mention before for about 5 more months. Thanks for the nomination, eyenot.
Maybe next year.

Is anyone else getting a bit concerned that nobody, so far, has agreed to
be a candidate? Is it apathy, busy schedules, fear of being pressured to
take on the duties of treasurer, concern over the whole Internet
censorship thing? Or maybe folks are just waiting to see others jump
in first. Dunno.

Mary, I for one would love to be on the board. Unfortunately, I am currently
on two _very_ active boards (Food Coop and AATA). I can't keep up with those
responsibilities and my private life at the moment. So, it is none of the
above. It is trying to be a responsible board member on any board I'm elected
or appointed to.

It seems we have the following nominations here:
krj
scg -- declined
mary
laotzu -- ineligible
gibson
russ
valerie
other
cmcgee -- declined
mdw
flem
tod???
I put the ??? after tod because while he's hinted that he's running in a few
other items, he has neither been nominated nor accepted in this item.
So, any other nominations? Do any of you who have been nominated want to
accept?
I'd further like to suggest that we keep this item limited to nominations and
acceptances, and perhaps minor proceduarl questions. Policy debates belong
elsewhere.

After careful consideration, I have decided to accept the nomination
for membership in the Board of Directors of Cyberspace Communications,
Incorporated.
I have a brief statement which can be viewed by typing the following,
(with the leading ! from a menu or bbs prompt, without it from a shell
prompt):
