The picnic was fun. We should do it again next year, if not sooner.

I'm sorry I missed most of it, but it was nice putting a few more faces to
names. The Frisbee with the Erics was fun :)

Who was the guy in the white tee playing frisbee? He is good.

I missed the river. Next year someone please remember to bring
it along, okay?

I too had a nice time.

Apparently, that was one of the Erics, specifically ea, formerly known as
hhrat.

I've met him, but didn't recognise him. :(

I think she may have been referring to Dan Earle (login 'y'), but I'm not
sure if she left before he showed up and started playing.

Mary, you mean the guy in the shirt which said simply, "VEGAN" ?

response 33 of 67: Mark Unseen   Jul 21 12:24 UTC 2003

The shirt was too far away to read. But he was playing the
western-most position. He was able to not just place the
frisbee but do it with those graceful high floaters. But
you were all good at it. It requires a touch. I don't have it.

I had to leave about a quarter-to-four, but still managed to get a hot dog.

I wanted to show up, but got involved with something else eariler in
the afternoon, so wasn't able to get down there until just after 6pm.
Since I was pretty sure people wouldn't still be there, I opted to
not even try.

I have fond memories of playing frisbee in the law quad with M-Netters after
Friday Happy Hours at Dominicks. Kid chasing interferes with frisbee playing,
at least until the kids are big enough to play.

Don't you gate it when rugrats get underfoot.

I wanted to come ,but had a Griffin who was having a love affair with his lima
beans and painting grandma with them. It was messy. :-)

Fortunately Scott was around to get the fire going. I'm not very good at
it without a big bottle of lighter fluid and I'd been talked into
not using the lighter fluid this time.

The rain wasn't an issue at all. Most folks were under the big tree and
looked out and said, Gee, it's raining. Didn't even dampen the hot dog
grill. A little while after the rain stopped, the sun returned and
we continued on until about 6:30 pm, maybe another two hours past the rain.

My recollections of who was there, augmented by some folks who were in
party last night. Family groupings are listed together:

We skipped because I was taking a nap part of the time and because the fumes
from barbecue fuel make me sick and I already had an overdose at the art fair.
If next picnic will be fume free I would appreciate advance notice.

This time there was no lighter fluid used, and it was real charcoal, not
briquettes. Just smelt like a wood fire. (We supplied the charcoal and don't
use things like Kingsford and the ilk. We buy only natural wood charcoal.

response 42 of 67: Mark Unseen   Jul 21 19:21 UTC 2003

I thought all charcoal was made from wood. shows what I know.
gelinas
response 43 of 67: Mark Unseen   Jul 21 19:48 UTC 2003

Yeah, but what happens to the wood after it is burnt into charcoal?
Apparently, sometimes various things get added to the wood while it is
being pressed into shape.

The no-lighter-fluid thing sort of sprung up at the last minute because
STeve was bending my ear about it on Saturday night while we were at
Art Fair, and because he offered his charcoal and home-made chimney.
Try to remind me about this next year, Sindi, and maybe we can accomodate
your wishes.

Nobody ate the tofu hot dogs. I've got two leftover packages of tofu
dogs in my fridge (Five per pack). Free to anyone I can deliver them
to without a lot of trouble.

re #30-33 - I was one of the Frisbee Tossers during the first round of
tossing, when it was just other, dcat, and myself. I didn't participate
during the 2nd round of tossing.

Ken, it was kind of you to bring tofu hotdogs. I would not have eaten them
anyway because I can't stand the taste of hot dogs (too salty and greasy).
I will ask Jim if he is interested.

Salty-greasy is not flavor. Jim says he can't stand the taste of hotdogs
either.
