I'm not so sure about that, I was once friends with a native New Orleans
bookworm. I was born there, and I never once saw snow...until I moved up
north. Can't say it was that cold!

I think I'm here for the first time this year. Grex has just
been to slow, what with dial-in termial delayer & obvious heavy non-
bbs use, getting here has been a pain. I hate waiting 3 minutes to
change conferences.

Mmm, that surprises me, I don't see that sort of lag -- three minutes
to change conferences.

Yeah, I must say that's pretty heavy. Maybe a slow net link?

Good morning Tef! (Actually, the scaring thing is it *is* morning at this
point! Ack! Run away, run away!) <snowth should just go to bed while she's
still *moderately* coherent.> Never mind. Lost cause.

(meg is absolutely AMAZED by the drift)

In the same area that had American Pie, did it have a listing of the paintings
referd to in "vincent's Song"? (i've seen a slide show done to the music,
but I didn't know if there was an "official" listing.

I think a combination of the military and 'classic rock' radio stations killed
_American Pie_ for me. I was in the Navy 4 years, and was stationed in all
4 corners of the U.S., and Okinawa, and it seems like any club that I ever
went to on, or near a Navy base, the evening would end up the same way. A
large group of trashed sailors up on a stage or table, hugging each other,
swaying back and forth, inches away from tears, overcome with emotion, wailing
the lyrics to _American Pie_. And then there's the fact that since I started
listening to classic rock, back in the late 70's, this is one of those 'rock
anthems' that gets airplay 10 times a day everywhere. I used to love the song.
But then again, I used to love _More than a Feeling_ by Boston.

excessive radio airplay can really suck all of the joy out of a song,
  can't it?

well, I've found most people don't even know about all the historical
references in this song.

True, Jon. I didn't know any of that stuff (asside from the reference to the
plane crash). Heh heh heh.....I actually dug reading all the historical stuff
about the song more than I enjoy the song.

I think I'd have to agree..the music became more alive for me at that point.
