Re #24: How many times are you going to cut-and-paste this?

I posted it where it's apropos, which happened to be two different items.
Is anyone going to comment on it and its implications for a lasting peace
between Israel and its enemies?

Well, my comment would be that with this sort thing being passed off as
"discussion" then Israel/Palestine is probably in for another 40 years of
conflict.

R #6 ... Does anybody need moer proof than the wall that SHARON is building
in Israel; Isn't that NAZI Behavior?

Not actually. The NAZIS tended to drive around walls rapidly with their
tanks. Building them wasn't so much a NAZI thing.

While I can understand why the Palestinians are against the idea, I
think it is probably a good idea. If a wall is what it takes to make
Israelis feel secure, it probably will end up being good for the
Palestinians in the long run. Besides, if a time comes when it is no
longer necessary, it can be torn down.

Lynne might be surprised to find me disagreeing with the above, but I'm
actually just quibbling. (:

A wall isn't what it takes to make Israelis feel secure. It's what can provide
security (not just a "feeling", as can be seen from the success of a similar
security fence in Gaza) in the absence of a Palestinian Authority with the
backbone to prevent terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians and due to the
reality of neighboring governments (e.g. Syria & Iran) who support terrorism
because they are not interested in ending the violence and peacefully
coexisting.

Ok. A fence is a reasonable defensive measure.

If they can't get along with each other, a big fence is probably a good idea.

Maybe it should be garrisoned by neutral troops, with orders to shoot anyone
who tries to cross in either direction with a weapon.

Math joke:

They're going to build a fence around Israel and then declare themselves
to be on the outside.
