I thought expunged meant the record didn't exist any more.

Now *that* would be a question of ethics.
What you HAVE to do is not nearly as important/indicative as what you
CHOOSE to do.

I never saw ANY reference that said Bush's record was expunged.
In any case, the law on expunging criminal records varies widely from
one state to another. I don't know anything about Maine's law -- or
indeed if it even has such a law.

When I read bap's wild accusations about Al Gore, I am left wondering which
one of them is in fact on drugs.
I have read that the record of Bush's DUI was expunged in 1993 - the year
he decided to run against Ann Richards. However, Maine law apparently does
not allow for court records to be sealed or purged, in conjuction with the
expungement of a record. DUI = "Driving Under the Influence", 29-A Maine
Revised Statutes 2411.
