Something like this might be clearer:

Use the "BACK" button on your browser to return to the
form. You can then make changes and resubmit it.

(Of course, the "lynx" browser doesn't really have any
"buttons". People who develop web-based applications really are
at the mercy of browser behavior that they can't control...)

People might not know how to do that.

Grex is really slooooowwwww this morning. I was #61 on the wait list.
About twenty five or thirty minutes later, I got on, only to have grex
crash (or at least freeze) after reading only one agora item. I
telnetted back, saw I was #57 this time and said the hell with it, and
Im backtalking now.

With this kind of efficiency, maybe the ISDNs were a waste of money.
Grex doesnt need ISDNs help to be this slow!

Backtalk is speedy today. I haven't noticed any major delays; it seems
better than normal to me.

HINT: there is almost always a long que in the morning. And more then likely
these people are doing more than just checking mail and etc. Another thing
to keep in mind.... 9-5 is when the internet is almost always busy.

wait, jan was telnetted in while you were dialed in? You mean you have
*three* phone lines at your place?! guess its necessary in a two computer
household. Admit it now, the relationship wouldnt last if you had to live
together with only one phone line and had to share computer time :)

when i tried to get on last night 4 or 5 times i would get the top half
of the screen ok then the bottom would be gibberish. i gave up til this
evening and still got the same. i waited about an hour and tried again and
finally got a usable connection.

I have been having some difficulties in Pine for the past two days. Some of
the owrds and letters I type, don't show up on the screen after I've typed
them. And other funny stuff I cant describe because its too early to
concentrate.

Re #202: Is it that particular letters never show up in pine
(for example, the letter 'n' never showing up) or does it appear
to be random (sometimes 'n' shows up and sometimes it doesn't)?

response 205 of 283: Mark Unseen   Nov 21 23:50 UTC 1997

Well, John, now that I am more alert abd graphically articulate, its working
and I dont recall. It seems like it was random disappearing letters or parts
of words, but I'm not really sure. In addition, after a while, I was getting
letter strings instead of the printed word. But that too, has cleared up.
Thanks to whoever took care of it.

The last time we had problems like the above with modems was with the newer
models running at 2400. If you make sure your error-correction is on on your
modem, it works much better. There is no configuration thing for this; the
new modems just don't like running with no error-correction.

I have my terminial emulator (Procomm) take the 14.4 modem
down to 9600 before dialing the 9600 lines, down to 2400 before
dialing the 2400 lines. That seems to give best results for me.

Grex's mail system has been configured to reject mail that claims to come
from systems that don't exist. This should reduce spam. -jdw
