Is grex sufficiently "un-ancient" such that it could have some "critical
health" monitors established, to notify staff automatically for certain
conditions? On work, the SiteScope product is in place to do that kind of
thing...

A better place for that might be NextGrex.

I use Big Brother for that at work, but for a single machine it'd be
overkill.

Maybe you should be a bit nicer to staff, Todd. While I really doubt they'd
shirk responsibilty, it really looks cheap that you're a complete twit except
when there's a problem you want fixed.

  re #172:
I hope that I'm not on anyone's "complete twit" list. I'd hate to think
I rate more than 80% twit..

That said, would someone on staff kindly attend to the full user partition
on /d? I'm sure tod's not the only user affected.

I'm not asking you to "kiss butt", Todd. Simply being civil would certainly
make me happier about spending my time keeping Grex running.

And why do you assume that staff has you twit-filtered? Guilty conciense??

This is the first time I've logged on today. The first time since I last
freed up some space on /d. I'll see what I can find.

So I freed up 3%. Maybe I'll have time for more tomorrow or Sunday. We'll
see.

I think Tod was actually trying to be polite. He did say please, and pointed
out that the problem is not just recent. It is hard to evaluate people's
attitudes from written postings.

Looks like we may be having problems with Ye Olde DSLle again. Just got
knocked off a couple of times.

issues.)

I have a suggestion to make regarding the MOTD.

It's prompted by the fact that I've been seeing this same message
(now about a week outdated) every time I've logged in for a week:

  > Grex lost internet connectivity again, I've reset the DSL modem.
  > I'm between library branches right now, so I don't have more info. -kip

Which is fine -- it's not as if motd is a top priority.. The suggestion,
though, is this: when reporting an outage or similar event in the MOTD,
why not include a date, e.g.:

26 Apr 2004: Grex lost intenet connectivity, etc.

It makes it easier for people who don't log in frequently to know whether
  the information is current..

response 187 of 405: Mark Unseen   May 3 14:16 UTC 2004

Good idea. I don't think motd is meant to go stale.

vendetta against tod.

I had to telnet in again as my previous session just hung while reading these
items (earlier it had done so but recovered), and would not recover.
