Ja, I'm waiting for you to send me a description of it to put there.

        Yea for Grexnews!

Well, I'm glad that you agree with the potential benefits of Sympathy
<okay, carson, *most* of you>. There really is no way around the issue; yes,
you would have to TRUST someone's judgement on it. Would this truly be so
bad? I can't think of Sympathy working properly under the "lassez-faire"
style which the other cf's run. I have no problem with this style, as a whole,
but it wouldn't allow for a safe place, here.
I understand that it is not the place of the Fair-Witness to play
a combination of monitor and caretaker. The fact is, perhaps Fair-Witness
isn't the right term for the leader of Sympathy. This is another reason
I'm unsure of it being what you have traditionally called here a cf.
Caretaker may indeed be the better word for it.

Re: sidhe's cf/non-cf/what's a cf? Sympathy.

sidhe's looking for a discussion with a soft touch, the human touch, and
feels thatthe standard cf will not provide that environment, am I right so far?
It seems to me that no objective rules are POSSIBLE in this situation, but I
am not sure sidhe knows what he's getting himself in for. As this is intended
to be a highly emotional discussion, he'l liable to get himself in trouble with
his intended beneficiaries if he doesn't take the greatest of care to maintain
the image of impartiality, IMHO.
  Just something to think about...

lilmo.. thank you. That was precisely what I had in mind. As for me
not knowing what I am in for.. maybe. Perhaps someone else would like to
co-chair it with me, for impartiallness sake?

Hm. I'm kinda waiting for a decision from you about whether you want me
to go ahead and create a sympathy conference, in Picospan, even though
you won't be able to remove individual responses, or whether you want to
find some other (non-Picospan) way of setting up the conference.

response 136 of 256: Mark Unseen   Jan 27 04:59 UTC 1995

sidhe, have you considered setting up a mailing list? Sure, it'd take up
a lot more diskspace than a conference using PicoSpan would, but it
would give you the power you would like as far as killing responses
and such.

response 137 of 256: Mark Unseen   Jan 31 14:23 UTC 1995

Not a terrible idea, carson, but I am loathe to take *too* much
room with this.. simply because I don't want it to ever be a "resource
hog" target. Anyway, I'm sure taking up that much space would annoy the
hell out of staff..
And I'm sure I'm already annoying them enough as is.
carson
response 138 of 256: Mark Unseen   Jan 31 22:52 UTC 1995

(last I checked, they don't get *too* annoyed unless you forget to
thank them every once in a while, but that's just my experience. If
anyone on staff *is* annoyed, they've been awfully silent...)

Alright, I'm going to enter a new item, asking for voluntary
help for building a non-picospan cf, namely, sympathy. I have NO idea
of how to run the technicals, so that's the support I need most.

I've got a great idea for a confrence for a confrence and want to know how you
like it. It would be on video games but mainly RPGs I think one of these has
been missing for awhile. It would be a place for people to get and share tips,
I'd call it vRPG.

How about creating a general rpg conference?

That way, the conference could focus on the newer video rpg's, and
still be in touch with the more traditional rpg's.

I think you'd stand a better chance of keeping the critical mass
that conferences need to stay healthy.

response 142 of 256: Mark Unseen   Feb 3 06:55 UTC 1995

You could also take that a step further, and just use "games." It's not
overly active, so the VRPG items wouldn't be drowned out there. Or you
could post a couple VRPG items in games to guage demand before deciding.

I like that lets call it RPGs and other games!

response 144 of 256: Mark Unseen   Feb 6 14:13 UTC 1995

I think that ajax is referring to a conference that already exists, called
games. Since RPGs are games, he wanted to know if you wanted to try
posting there and seeing how it works.

response 148 of 256: Mark Unseen   Feb 7 04:05 UTC 1995

Actually, it got renamed to "darksun", and its focus changed from rpg's
to other stuff. Do folks want a new rpg conference? If so, who will be
the fair witness(es)? If not, do you want to try discussing rpgs in the
games conference?
kain
response 149 of 256: Mark Unseen   Feb 7 16:09 UTC 1995

I'd like an RPG confrence, but what do you mean "fair witness" if it's
required, I'll be one
sidhe
response 150 of 256: Mark Unseen   Feb 7 18:36 UTC 1995

Well, I'd like to show support for a general RPG cf, being an
editor of them, and all.
A Fair-Witness is, as I have learned of late, basically someone
who is there to try and keep the conf on-track, and up and running.
