What do you want to know, Tod?
tod
response 126 of 188: Mark Unseen   Nov 18 17:00 UTC 2004

Not to make comparisons, but on the M-Net member program, you can look at
people's duration of membership and expiry dates, etc.
I would like to get some stats on who the new members are, who the lifers are,
and who the sporadic types are.

Can you give a cogent reason why that information should be public?

(Not that I think it shouldn't be, I just can't at the moment think of a
particular reason why it should be.)

response 128 of 188: Mark Unseen   Nov 19 14:55 UTC 2004

I dont think its a requirement; just a nice feature.

response 129 of 188: Mark Unseen   Nov 22 07:18 UTC 2004

Yeah, the information about when people expire is not stored online. I feel
it's a bit of a violation of people's privacy. With that info, for
instance, you could figure out who pays yearly and who pays month-to-month.
tod
response 130 of 188: Mark Unseen   Nov 22 17:55 UTC 2004

How is that an invasion of privacy?

Dunno if it is, but it's probably none of [your] damn business, either.

That's a nice attitude. No wonder so many fine people are volunteering.

Well, people complain about having to show ID to the treasurer, so it
stands to reason that people might be sensitive about information
regarding their member status.

Yeah, there might be some people who are ashamed of supporting a volunteer-run
organization.

response 135 of 188: Mark Unseen   Nov 23 02:15 UTC 2004

I don't know for sure, but I suspect, that some people who pay
month-to-month do so because they don't feel they have enough cash reserves
to pay for a whole year at once (which would save them money). They might
not like everyone to know that.

I've just emailed all the nominees -- regardless whether they've
accepted, declined, or haven't indicated -- reminding them that
November 30 is the last day to accept the nomination and
establish voting membership.

Here's the nominee list that I scraped from this item. Apologies
in advance for any inaccuracies. The letters 'A' and 'D' stand
for "accept" and "decline", respectively. Again, anybody can
change their mind before December 1.

In the event that I decide to accept my own nomination, would
it be okay to handle that as in the past: Have somebody other
than myself -- perhaps a staff person who isn't a candidate --
check the final count?

five nominees for three open seats? I think remmers better run or mfp would
be in danger of being elected :)

response 142 of 188: Mark Unseen   Nov 29 18:32 UTC 2004

While there are technically three "open" seats, one of them is held
by an incumbent who is running for re-election. Such folks are strongly
favored to win.

So there are only two seats lacking an incumbent.

response 145 of 188: Mark Unseen   Nov 30 13:31 UTC 2004

I've decided to pass on running for the Board.

Again, folks have until the end of the day (EST) to accept their nomination.
I've asked the treasurer to make sure membership information is up-to-date,
as this determines eligibility to run. I'll make up the final ballot and
turn on the vote program tomorrow, December 1, as early in the day as I can
get to it.
aruba

I passed the membership info on to remmers.

response 147 of 188: Mark Unseen   Dec 1 12:39 UTC 2004

The polls are now open. Candidates are dpc, gelinas, tod, vanloons.

To vote from a tty (telnet, ssh, dialup) connection, type 'vote' at a
Unix shell prompt or '!vote' at just about any other prompt. To vote
on the web, go to http://cyberspace.org/cgi-bin/pw/voting-booth .

Candidates are reminded (I sent mail about this a few days ago) that
they can create a campaign statement that the vote program will display.
See my email for instructions; email me if you're having problems
setting it up, and I'll provide technical assistance.

Gelinas' statement had some aspects that looked vaguely familiar... ;)
