Because of the European currency crisis, the pound has dropped from
a peak of $2 about two weeks ago to a current value of about $1.70. I hope
this will be reflected in Schoolkids import prices soon, because I
went into sticker shock this weekend. Several new British Isles folk
items were priced at $24, $28 and $30. Argh! I just settled for the
one I wanted which was $20.
I don't love the Whisky Priests $28 dollars worth.

(OK, maybe I do love the Whisky Priests $28 worth. :-( )
Latest Schoolkids pricing outrage: A CUPPA TEA AND LIE DOWN by the
Able Tasmans, $21 at Schoolkids. I got it for $14 at Tower. Both copies
on the Flying Nun Europe label.

Yeah, but for my tastes they still get a half-dozen albums per month
which nobody else within 500 miles carries. Like THE WILD SIDE OF TOWN
by The Albion Band, which I hadn't seen in 5 years; last time I saw a
copy I'd given up on Ashley Hutchings & the Albions and passed it over.

Schoolkids is advertising a 20%-off sale in today's Ann Arbor News.
This should bring their prices in line with other stores for a few days...
:-) Is Mike out of town? (re: #124)

Hmmm.. I was in Dearborn all day, if that counts.. But then I'm in
Dearborn just about every weekday, and they don't have sales that often..
Did I miss the sale (i.e. was it Friday, or was the advertisement Friday
for a sale on Saturday?) There're only one or two discs that they have
that I know I want, but they're pricey ones, so 20% off would be a decent
incentive..

Tower's having another storewide sale. The usual deal: most normal-priced
discs at $12, with +0reductions on all other albums. Through Tuesday,

It's sad, but I went there and looked around for nearly an hour,
*wanting* to buy something, and I couldn't find something I could
work up the enthusiasm to shell out 12 bucks for (warning to would-be
pedants: I don't *care* that I'm ending a sentence with a preposition.)
I suppose it's not such a bad thing, since I've currently got any number
of other financial drains, but I do want something new to listen to..
How about posting some recommendations in the brief reviews item?

I don't care that your sentence ended with a preposition, Mike, but leaving
the period in the wrong place is unpardonable. :-)
Tower sale report: most "budget line" products are on sale 3 for $25, or
$9 each. I think the sale goes through Tuesday. Last year we bought a
bunch of stuff we didn't really want at this sale, so I think I'll
skip it this year.

Would "budget price" refer only to the normally $9.99 and below discs
or would the $10.99 and $11.99 discs be included?
(doubt it about the $11.99 discs, I suppose and if I couldn't find
anything I wanted last week I doubt their selection has changed all that
much.. I think I need to pass by Vinyl Solution in GR more often, I never
have trouble finding something intriguing there..)

I believe that the description "budget" covers everthing Tower
prices up to $11.99 -- not the red sale stickered stuff, of course.
But I'm not sure, and I've already spent my CD budget for February,
so I'm not going to worry about it.

Confirming #138: Pop/rock cds normally priced between $9.99 and $11.99
are on sale at Tower for 3/$26 (they raised that; it was 3/$25 last
year). Sale is through March 2.
I'm in a really retro mood lately. I'm gonna pig out.
(Budget cassettes are 2/$9.)

Yeah, I just dropped by today. Un(?)fortunately recent computer purchases
have constricted my cash flow so I only picked up 3 discs but the price
was pretty good.. (I bought an XTC singles collection, Enya's first album,
and a collection of early Bob Marley ska stuff..)

Lessee, what I found at the sale: new Cordelia's Dad, Blondie's PARALLEL
LINES, The Byrds' YOUNGER THAN YESTERDAY, Jefferson Airplane BLESS ITS
POINTED LITTLE HEAD, first B-52s album, CHEAP THRILLS by Big Brother &
The Holding Company. (I *said* I was in a really retro mood; except for
the Cordelia's Dad, which I'm sure none of you have ever heard of,
everything is pre-1979, quite a bit is pre-1970.)

I saw them going through the aisles one by one, ripping the long box off the
CD and putting the CD back in the bin. It seemed odd.
I'm glad that they're making the effort to get rid of the longbox though.

How about those new improved CD prices?? East Lansing's Where House
Records is in the process of hiking prices by $2 a disc; marquee-name
artists like Sting, Eric Clapton and Living Color are now priced at
$16, and the hoi polloi are being priced at $15. This follows a
$1 price hike about a year ago. This makes for about a 23% price
increase in 12 months. I hadn't realized inflation had gotten out
of control again.
I had thought the Harmony House chain was way out of line when I saw
that it had moved most items to a $17 price, but it looks like this
is the coming thing.

Ugh! This really irritaes me. CD's are nothing more than a tool to
generate extra income. A CD costs no more to produce than an LP in
compreable mass quantities. Early on that wasnt the case, but it is now.

Actually, it costs less. They use a lot less plastic, and its of
a cheaper variety, too.
