So, is 8290 or 5041 the optimum to dial in now? And has 5041 been made 14.4
now? (Just a tad confused, here :)

Also, what exactly is the groupie server? I dialed in (5041) and it gave me
a choice of four connections, each of which said ** FREE ** next to it. If
you hit return, there was a list of choices, once of which was Grex. What
exactly is going on? Was there a discussion about this somewhere that I
missed? If so, could somebody tell me which conf and which item so I can
catch up? What are those other choices? Is telnet now free to anyone who
can dial up to Groupie? What's this I hear about a 14.4 connection? As you
can see, I've got a whole lot of questions :)

I heard another reportabout one of groupie's ports giving the menu rather than
connecting straight through. I need to fix that.
re 96:
groupie passes the terminal type enviromnet variable along with the
telnet connection. undef is one of the things it can be set for. I should
probably configure all its ports to send vt100.

At 12:30, and then again at 1 pm 5041 gave my software a connection but hung
at that point and did not ask for my login. I successfully dialed in on 4931.

The terminal type on groupie should be set to "dialup". This will cause
the same thing to happen that happens on our other dialup connections -
ie, it allows tset to map dialup into vt100 or whatever, in a manner
that is customizable per-user.

I saw a file named "words" in /usr/dict.
where is that file used?
Do we have "thesaurus" on GREX?

i tried to dial into 5041 earlier, but it gave me a busy signal, i thought
this was what groupie was supposed to take care of, that youwouldn't get a
busy signal, but a wait for teh prompt.. maybe not.

If all the phone lines are in use, you will still get a busy signal. The only
thing we could do about that would be to order more lines from the phone
company.

I got busy signals for half an hour, but a who command showed four
dialins[ttyh 4,5,6, and 9, and no connections from groupie. It took over 45
mins to get onto grex, and only 4 lines were in use??

I tried for 51 minutes to dial in on 5041, getting constant busy signals.
I switched to 3000, got in immediately, and found only 3 dialins when I did
who. ????

I rebooted groupie. We'll see how long it lasts this time. At some point,
I need to get the current version of its software onto it.

2400 just affects how fast the text plays out on my screen... rarely a
concern, as compared with internet lag, or temporary processor pauses.

I don't think it lasted to long Steve, I got in for the first time
that way, without a busy signal and all it did at 8am is disconnect me.

I got constant busy signals at 11:45 on both 4931 and 5041. I dialed in on
3000, and did ok, but noticed that only two logins from groupie showed with
the who cmd. I hung up, redialed 4931, and after 3 tries got put in the
telnet que. I logged in, but couldnt see my mail cause the terminal type was
unknown. so I logged out using the ssty -hupcl cmd, logged in again, and had
the same thing happen. I'm also getting a very jumpy and jerky typing string
show up. NOt simiply the slow modem, but it collecects a random number of
chars, spitst them out, the waits again for 1-2 seconds collecting more chars,
before it spits them out again.

I dialed in on 9041 after changing the parity, but it still wouldn't pick up
and shake hands with my modem. Checked my modem and it was set at 9600.
Changed it to 13,400 and it answered right away.
