IHB after spending a long day of banging my head on the problem, I
finally figured out how to make a login session work properly across
separate pages in PHP. It was especially challenging because it was the
first day I'd ever tried to write any PHP code.
For my next trick, I may actually succeed in properly compiling Apache
on a Linux box so that the alias module works. This has been a problem
due to never having touched a Linux box before and never having compiled
a program before. So far, I have Apache working but not the alias
module, and all the right lines appear to be uncommented in the default
httpd.conf file.

(You should enter an item somewhere documenting how you did it. Others
might find it interesting...I know I would as I'm about to start working
on something like that in PHP)

IHB I've finally upgraded my home mail server to openbsd3.8 and
retired the poor 6gig microdrive that was serving as its main disk
in favor of an 80gig ide drive. What got into me to run a production
server on a disk designed for digital cameras is hard to explain...

re resp:102 - Only be last name.
IHB- it's Friday. I don't mind my job, and I really like the people I
work with- but I'm so glad it's Friday. Tomorrow the hubby and I are off
to see my older bro and his wife, and their puppies! :)

IHB- I am in possession of a box. Said box was sent to me by my older
sister for my birthday. I'm not entirely sure when it arrived- as the
apartment complex office had said box, but I had received no
notification of this. On a whim I stopped by the office after lunch and
took possession of the box. I have no idea what's in it- and am excited
to find out. :)

resp:109 So far I have only been driving the electric trains but on the
others you have to decide when to refuel. I have been playing
the "Amtrak Northest Corridor" scenario so the biggest challenge is
keeping to the timetable. One has to monitor track signals and keep
under the speed limits. It is hard because in order to keep to the
schedule, one has to hit the maximum speed on the tracks which changes.
The trains apparently are designed to coast so you have to judge
exactly when to decrease the throttle and/or apply the brakes to get
the train's speed down to a decreased limit. If you do it too early
(like I did a few times) you end up late and if you wait too long and
have to apply the brakes too hard, you get in trouble for causing the
passengers discomfort. You also have to sand the tracks under certain
weather conditions. And, of course, you have to decide when to blow the
train's horn. You have to blow the horn when there are deer on the
tracks or when approaching a station. There is also a bell that has to
be on when in the station. This scenario is easier than some of the
others because it is a closed track (no road crossings). Oh and there
is a headlight that has to be dimmed when other trains approach or when
entering a station but I havent moved onto the nighttime scenarios yet.

I wonder whether realm Amtrak engineers get punished for being late or
causing the passengers discomfort?
What are you supposed to do when people moon the train?

resp:117 - The game doesnt tell you how many passengers die when you
derail.
resp:118 - Judging from the number of late amtrak trains I have been on,
I would say none

Re#109 In Japan, there is a very popular train simulation for the
play station that lets people drive a train on any of the routes
served by JR (Japan Rail). It is very common for people aspiring
to work for JR to train on this simulator.
