Though its sometimes hard to do, I love the coast [especially the ocean but
lakes are cool, too]. I like the light reflections, waves, the sea gulls,
people playing in the sand and water, sea shells, sea grass, etc etc.
I also enjoy other types of nature photography as well. And just about
anything else that strikes my fancy [sometimes the silliest things are cool
photographs]. And with people shots, I much prefer candids over posed ones.

I love the coast too. But I just have a hard time visually capturing the
same emotion of the time and place. My pictures end up being pretty
boring. I think I am trying to capture too much in a single frame (wide
lens), when I should break it down more and focus on lots of smaller
individual things, like the sea shells mentioned above.
As far as themes go... I think my next one will be of local motels and
motel signs, like
this one. Already I notice alot of them are being torn down or
replaced. Two that I can think of off hand are the Downtowner
Motel and the Holiday
Motel, and my favorite (though not a motel), The Chicken
Coop sign.

I used to primarily do wide angle shots but not all the time anymore.
Though I've always been pretty good about doing 'candid' shots of
individual people [and often, without them knowing, while I use the
telephoto lense], more recently I've been doing more and more of
isolating specific things to capture an area or place.
And I, too, will often pick a theme to focus on. I think I've mentioned
elsewhere in this conference that some of my themes have included such
things as fences, shadows, clouds, and sunrises over the Atlantic coast.
I like you're idea of the neon lights... [and thanks for the different
links. There are a number of them here in MI as well as in NC that I've
seen and remember]. Sometimes when I'm out somewhere and taking a
number of photos, I'll also include one of a sign saying where I am; I
haven't focused on any particular type of sign, though.
