Because they're NUTS! 'Nuff said.
I ran into them a couple years ago, when some friends from Canada played me
Gordon, and fell in love.

i love the barenaked ladies.. they're just cool enough not to take themselves
so seriously like so many people do, and many of there songs are with no
conciquence (no i can't spell), for the most part it's happy music. i have
born on a pirate ship b/c while i was at wazoo, i was trying to decide between
gordon, the other one, and boapc... born on a pirate ship's pretty good, but
i kinda wish i would have gotten another one, or still hope to get one, once
i get money...

If i was in a band I'd never take myself seriously :) I love all sorts of
art that doens't take itself seriously (such as The Lost World, which I liked
but many others didn't. Doesn't matter, because it was tongue-in-cheek most
of the way).

if you ever get _Rock Spectacle_ you have to listen to the very end! And the
_Uncle Erwyn_ song! they recorded that one live in Chicago! its a total
laughing trip!

i don't think it is.... i think its recent. Cos they have some of the same
songs on that as the _Raised on a Pirate ship_ album.

The first is "Gordon". Then came "Maybe you Should Drive". Then came
"BOAPC". Then Rlock Spectacle, then Stunt. Gordon and MYSD are still my
faves, but Stunt is also got some great stuff on it.

Yeah, Barenaked ladies are my favorite. And I finally got to see them
live this summer, after wanting to since June of '94. They are *GREAT*
I'll be seeing them again on Dec. 27th, and I'm already so excited about
the show.
Maybe you should drive seems to be my favorite, but Gordon, BOAPS and
Rock Spectacle are really close behind. Stunt, I wasn't too impressed
with at first, but now after pulling it back out and listening to it a
little bit more, I've recently come to like it.

I do hope they don't get ruined by crass commercialism.
Radio stations played "Two Weeks" to the point of saturating the market.
brrrrr...I grew to loathe that song
I mean, where are other bands like Crash Test Dummies and They Might Be
Giants, which I think could be in the same folk rock category?

Excuse me, that should be "One Week." Apologies to all Barenaked Ladies
fans. I mentioned the bands that I did because I see them belonging to
a similar movement in music-- They Might Be Giants makes political
references, Crash Test Dummies made references to English literature,
and Barenaked Ladies make references to other songs. So why aren't they
in the limelight in the same year?
btw, I think They Might Be Giants lasted a little longer than 15 mins,
but I'm nitpicking.

They Might Be Giants are Americans.
Bare Naked Ladies are Canadian.
So far as I know, and I'm seriously out of the information loop, Bare
Naked Ladies only recently became popular in the US. They're
megapopular in Canada.
This recent song, One Week, is their first release in the US, anyway.
Maybe they wanted to try us out and see what happened.

Uh, no, it wasn't their first release-- they did play "If I Had A
Million Dollars" from _Gordon_ from time to time.

Yeah, I found out about them from Canadian friends back when "Gordon" first
came out. I actually don't really like anything I've heard of theirs since,
but there were a few songs on Gordon that I really liked.

I'm really curious now to see what their next album is going to sound
like... It's hard to describe their change in sound, but things really
have changed from Gordon to Stunt. I must say I like everyone of their
almbus though, even if Stunt gets the least praise. I'm really hoping
they come around again this summer because the fact remains, whatever is
on their album at the time, the Barenaked Ladies live shows are awesome.
