It occurs to me that I'm probably never again going to play many of
the cassette tapes I have (most of which have been superceded by CDs.)
In order that someone might get some use out of them, I'm giving away
the following tapes (from the first group I came across, more will
probably show up later):
Adrian Belew -- "Young Lions"
King Crimson -- "USA" (70's-era live album, no longer in print.)
King Crimson -- "Islands"
King Crimson -- "Starless and Bible Black"
Elvis Costello -- "This Year's Model"
Elvis Costello -- "Spike"
Desmond Dekker -- "16 Greatest Hits" (including the classic "Israelites"!)
Pere Ubu -- "Cloudland" (highly recommended..)
Roxy Music -- "Stranded"
David Bowie -- "Lodger"
Rocky Horror Picture Show -- Motion Picture Soundtrack
Talking Heads -- "More Songs About Buildings and Food"
Graham Parker -- "Live! Alone in America"
INXS -- "Listen Like Thieves"
Various Artists -- "This Is Charly [Records] Soul"
Luka Bloom -- "The Acoustic Motorbike"
If you're interested in a tape, please respond in this album. I'd like
to see them go to as many people as possible, so please just ask for one
(or possibly two) tapes until everyone's had a shot..

BTW, preference will be given to local "orders" or to people willing
to send a self-addressed, stamped mailer to receive the tape (or tapes.)
I don't mind giving them away, but I don't look forward to spending my
own money to do so..

A fine choice.. Be warned that exposure to the bassline in "Israelites"
can have lasting aftereffects..
Katie has first dibs on the Desmond Dekker tape. Contact me separately
to arrange some reasonable way for me to get it to you..

You may have it, omni. I have a CD or two of his.
I heard a while ago that there was going to be a DD box set -- never have
seen it.

Ooh...can I please have the David Bowie? (The album, not the man,
though I'd take both). ;-)

Everybody needs a copy of David Bowie (the man, not the album).
I'd love Crimson's "USA," and I'll take "Islands" too if nobody wants it.

re #6, 7: gypsi gets the David Bowie, then, and orinoco gets "USA",
possibly "Islands".
In general I guess I'm not going to respond to each separate request --
if you're the first to speak for a particular album and it's your only
choice, assume that you will get it.
Knowing what a considerate bunch we are here in the music conference,
my guess is that If you ask for a second cassette you'll probably get
that too, unless someone else wants it enough to supercede your request.
As they're just old cassette tapes I don't think there'll be a lot of that.
Once we've more or less settled out who gets what, I guess we'll work out
how to get things to each of you..

I think we'd (Jon and Julie) be interested in the Rocky Horror and Roxy
Music tapes.

OK, then, if I've got things straight we've found homes for:
King Crimson -- "USA"
King Crimson -- "Islands"
King Crimson -- "Starless and Bible Black"
Desmond Dekker -- "16 Greatest Hits"
Pere Ubu -- "Cloudland"
Roxy Music -- "Stranded"
David Bowie -- "Lodger"
Rocky Horror Picture Show -- Motion Picture Soundtrack
INXS -- "Listen Like Thieves"
The following are still up-for-grabs:
Adrian Belew -- "Young Lions"
Elvis Costello -- "This Year's Model"
Elvis Costello -- "Spike"
Talking Heads -- "More Songs About Buildings and Food"
Graham Parker -- "Live! Alone in America"
Various Artists -- "This Is Charly [Records] Soul"
Luka Bloom -- "The Acoustic Motorbike"
I can highly recommend "Young Lions", "This Year's Model", "More Songs
About Buildings and Food" and "Live! Alone in America"
Of the remaining tapes,
+ "Spike" is just OK compared to other Elvis Costello albums.
+ the Charly Records Soul sampler has some good (and famous) tunes on it,
including Lee Dorsey's "Working in a Coal Mine", a track by the Meters,
and Chris Kenner's guaranteed-to-annoy "Land of a Thousand Dances"
(aka "Naa na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na..")
+ the Luka Bloom tape is, to the best of my knowledge, unopened
(so I can't say much more about it except I think it's acousticky
singer- songwritery stuff...)

Add to the list of available tapes:
Ricky Lee Jones -- "Flying Cowboys"
And I suspect there's still another box somewhere but can't say for
sure -- I might've given them away along with my previous car..

I'll go for the Good Elvis Costello. Amazingly, I don't have any of his!
Luka Bloom is okay. I've got two of his cassettes, and they got moderate
listening back when I first bought them. He's the younger brother of
some reasonably big Irish musician, which was why I bought them. (I want
to say like Christy Moore, but I don't recall. Their last names are
totally different.)

Yes, it's Christy Moore. Luka Bloom started out as Barry Moore and when
his first career didn't go anywhere he went for a new name to erase
all recollection of his old identity.
