(noresp doesn't work because it was a custom command on M-Net. It would
be pretty easy to write one if the f-w's wanted it.)

Thankxx popcorn - is there a command to un-scribble a response, either
from the user's pov or the fw's pov?

Since scribble actually excises the text from the item file, I don't
think it's reversible. All the more reason to think carefully before
you scribble.

adn especially before a fw scribbles - course fw (if the command works)
SHOULD personaly capture that response in a file first, just in case.

And I think that scribbled stuff +already+ goes to a file which is
readable - but the fw ought to keep a separate copy anyway, imo.

All expurgated and scribbled text is saved to /h1b/bbs/censored (ah,
a remnant of the old names...). That file is publically readable.
There have been large and heated debates in the past about whether
this file should be publically readable; please don't start one of them
in this item.

I also don't think that the FW can expurgate or scribble responses in
this version of PicoSpan. Only the item author and cfadm can do that.

Is there any way an FW can make an item acessable only to other FWs within
his/her conference?

Maybe, maybe not. I haven't noticed too many new users interested in this
conference.

Instead of entering "r" to respond, enter "pseudonym" at the
Respond or pass? prompt.

"pseudo" (or "ps") will give you a different name for one response. I
suspect fuz wants to assign himself, or possibly others, something
else. To do the former, the command is SET NAME - I'm not sure of the
exact syntax, but it shouldn't be too hard. As for the latter, you
probably can do it if you're the FW, but it's pretty rude to assign
names to other users without their permission.

Isn't it "change name", not "set name"?
omni
response 15 of 55: Mark Unseen   Jun 15 03:57 UTC 1994

It's SET name. I just used it.

The syntax, BTW, is to say SET NAME or CHANGE NAME and let it prompt you
for a replacement. Putting *that* in a script that gets run for a new
member of a conference would be fine - encouraging pseudonyms without
just up and assigning them.

But it's so easy to vi the associated .cf file and alter the 2nd line,
the one which shows your current conference name, to reflect your
newer choice.

of course I like the easy way..............

response 21 of 55: Mark Unseen   Aug 24 20:58 UTC 1994

Type "change logout" while in the conference whose logout screen you
want to change. This will bring up your usual editor, and you'll be
able to make the changes you want.
