Poetry FW Mark Unseen   Aug 11 07:11 UTC 1997

The poetry conference has reached item 1002.
I am resigning as fair witness as soon as
we get a new fw (I'm restarting it before
I hand over my magic wand). I don't know
if anyone really cae, but my recommendations
for the next fw of the people in there
regularly are toking and arianna. I would
also recommend craig and rlawson, but they
seem to be around even LESS often than me.
anyway, I would linke this to poetry, but
I think I forgot how.

I think you can link the item by going to poetry and typing:

link coop 27

Yes, that will work.

For internal conference business like fairwitness changes and
restarts, there's no need for a coop item. Conference
participants can just discuss it in the conference; then you can
request any changes in mail to cfadm.

Speaking as an occasional poetry conference participant, I'll
say that I think you've done a wonderful job and I'm sorry to
see you go. How many conferences can boast over 1000 items?
Regarding the restart, I suggest keeping the old version around
for a while as "oldpoetry" to give people a chance to save stuff.

keep it around permanently as "oldpoetry" or something../
if old agoras and coops can be kept around, why not other confs?
Of course there isa the "storage" conf, which the items tcan be linked
into.

Dont just nuke the conf like selena killed the old sex conf...
the items deserve to be preserved.

I agree with Richard on that one - I think we can keep it around permanently.

actually, i would love if if someone could figure otu a quick way to ge6t it
on
a disk for me (or just onto my harddrive) I tried once
via some wacky command rob henderson gave me, but it didn't work.
(i mean as a text file, btw)
I wasn't quite sure what the proceedurewas for
getting a new fw and resigning,
so I posted here, so nyah. not like this place is quite so buisy as
it once was.
How about I post another item in poetry and don't link em,
so you coopers don't have to read this nonsense anymore...
(unles someone would like to speculate about old poetry
and jpw tp tramsfer a wjhole conference onto a pc)

I was under the impression that the current fw(s) of any conf could pick
their replacements. This goes back to the question everyone has a
different answer for, which is "do fw's *own* their confs?"

But if an FW picks a replacement FW who nobody in the conf likes, and
the conferees complain to cfadmin, what does cfadmin do? I dont think
there is anything spelled out about what exactly the rules of fw
succession are...maybe there should be?

response 11 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 13 21:50 UTC 1997

well, it's not really an issue for here, kerouac. I pointed to a few
of the most devoted and oldestusers of the conferences, who I know are
responsible and actually will continue to be on the system, but thwy can pick
whomever
they want.

response 12 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 13 22:27 UTC 1997

If it is a matter of th epoetry conf users picking, how should it be gone
about?

Maybe an item about it, and after "X" number of days counting the vote?

Would it be possible to use the vote program for an application like this?

response 13 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 14 12:22 UTC 1997

It would, but I think it would be overkill.

The way fw changes have been handled in the past is that cfadm
gets mail from an fw saying "please add Joe Shmoe as an fw", or
"I quit, please remove me as an fw", and cfadm just does it.
I'm not aware of any problems that have occurred with this
informal approach, and in the absence of such would prefer not
to see global bureaucratic procedures instituted. Why fix
something that isn't broken?

In any case, I don't see a need for a coop discussion of how
one particular conference should pick a new fw. Let the
conference participants talk about it in the conference, if they
want to.

response 14 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 15 05:53 UTC 1997

joe... there;s an item in poetry for this right now.
i'm just hoping someon actually responds to it,
because I couldn't pick between you and erinn
richard
response 15 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 15 15:22 UTC 1997

so let joe and erin be co-fw's...no need to choose at all
jenna
response 16 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 16 05:30 UTC 1997

true... but i was kinda hing someone else gave a damn ;<
you go one and on about democracy, richard, but nobdoy
but the fw uisually cares who the next fw is.
richard
response 17 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 16 17:16 UTC 1997

can't access poetry right now outside of Backtalk anyway so the point
is moot...
jenna
response 18 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 17 03:27 UTC 1997

well not EXACTLY, richard. poetry needs to be put into oldp[oetry
(cfadm???) poossibly with the last 8 items chopped off. (they're causig
the problems) And the New fw's... (Toking and Arianna) need to
start an item #1 lonce that's done.

response 19 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 17 08:23 UTC 1997

I've got a question....ARE we the fw's now? or has that not happened yet?

I've added arianna and toking as FWs, and restarted the poetry conference.

Guiding the conference a bit, and freezing and unfreezing items (and maybe
not even that)
jenna
response 22 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 21 05:23 UTC 1997

*blinks* that as out of context, stephen...
arianna will be tickled when she finds out
she may be moving into her dorm this week, you know
arianna
response 23 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 21 19:37 UTC 1997

actually, I am (; tickled, that is.
problem now is that I don't know any fw commands...... <wanders around
aimlessly...>
dang
response 24 of 28: Mark Unseen   Aug 21 19:53 UTC 1997

I have a list of the fw commands. I can mail it to you if you want.
