Results of the 1999 Board Election Mark Unseen   Dec 16 05:54 UTC 1999

Here are the results of the 1999 Board election. There were 94
eligible members; 49 of those cast ballots. The results, listed
in order by number of votes received, are as follows:

    Eric Bassey (other) 35
    Megan Heberlein (eeyore) 34
    Marcus Watts (mdw) 34
    Greg Fleming (flem) 33
    Anne Perry (mooncat) 24
    Andrew Christensen (morpheus) 9
    Todd Plesco (tod) 5

Since there are four open positions, this makes Eric, Megan, Marcus,
and Greg the winners. Congratulations!

Although they aren't used in determining the outcome, I also tally
the non-member votes. For your information, here are those. They
exhibit some striking differences from the member votes:

    mooncat 54
    eeyore 49
    mdw 46
    flem 44
    morpheus 35
    tod 33
    other 29

A total of 116 non-members voted.

Terms of office begin on January 1, 2000. In addition to the four
new members, there are three incumbents. Members of the year 2000
board are:

    STeve Andre (steve)
    Eric Bassey (other)
    Greg Fleming (flem)
    Megan Heberlein (eeyore)
    John Remmers (remmers)
    Marcus Watts (mdw)
    Jan Wolter (janc)

Many thanks to the departing Board members for their terms of service:
Mark Conger (aruba), Scott Helmke (scott), and Misti Tucker (mta).

I'll be contacting members of the new board via email to schedule the
January meeting. A major order of business at that meeting will be
selection of officers: chair, secretary, treasurer. Board members
should be thinking about their interest in serving in those positions.
That issue is also fair game for discussion in this item, I'd think.

Er... why are there four new Board members but only three departing Board
members?

I think the fourth departing board member is dang, but I'm not sure about
that.

Congrats to the incoming board, and thanks Scott, Mark, and Misti. The later
three have done super stuff.

Congratulations to the new Board members! I'm happy to see a mix of old and
new blood on the board.

Oops, apologies to Dan Gryniewicz (dang) - he's also a departing
board member, and deserves thanks for the service he put in as well.

Kudos to the new Board members, and those who gave a valiant effort in the
election process.

Congrats to new board members! I think we've elected a fine board.
(A minor correction - there were 87 members eligible to vote, not 94.)
(We currently have 96 members, but 3 of them are not paid up, 4 of them have
only paid for 1 or two months' membership, and 2 of them are institutional
members.)

bruin slipped in, and I echo what he said about those who gave a valiant
effort - well put.

(Wow, close votes...)

It looks like a fine board to me. It's a great mix of people, and I can't
wait to attend the meetings.

congrats to the winners-- now to the nasty question of who gets to
succeed aruba as treasurer.

maybe marcus should be president next year, since he must possess the
oldest grex login, he obviously has the most grex experience

Um, I believe the current president will be president by default. Correct?

wow. i wonder what those numbers say about voters. specifically member vs.
non-member voters. i maintain much greater visibility in bbs than in party
and that seems the primary distinction to me...
