Poems of love, dedication and AIDS/HIV Mark Unseen   Nov 26 04:10 UTC 1993

More depressing poetry <also known as "Poetry of Hope">
This stuff was written by me quite a few months ago in an attempt to
understand the AIDS/HIV epidemic which I had been aware of but not
exactly concerned about until it hit too close to home. I had been dating
a guy for a few weeks and had been puzzled as to why he wouldn't go as
far as I wanted to go <and I knew he wanted> when he called me over one
night and told me that he is HIV+. I stuck close to him and we are still
friends even though the relationship didn't work out <for reasons totally
UNrelated to the news>....
I guess you might say this is also a tribute to those who are having to
deal with this disease and a memorium for those who have died by it.

Stricken.
A love, a desire, a need...
A disease.
It teases, crushing your heart as if...
[Tears overwhelm and you drown;
they fill your life, your soul,
hiding the crater gouged into you]
As if it were clay, softened by the sun.
But it's not the sun,
It's 'Pandora's Box':
It lures, seduces, freezes your blood,
It kills, corrupts, destroys, murders;
A monster in pink ribbon
To eat, consume your very nature.
You want it to stop, but it's eternal.
You can do nothing...
Nothing but exist, survive, struggle.
It mangles..............wins.
But not all.
It cannot conquer Love,
Giver of joy, happiness, mercy, grace.
That's all that's left,
But it's enough...

I once thought life to be a game.
Now I know that we are not the players.
I once believed in magic.
Now all I can believe in is love.
"Pastures are greener on the other side,"
I was told.
Mine was barren so I crossed over
Only to find a multitude standing before a jagged mountain range.
Many had tried but all had perished.
I called upon my love for him...
And the mountain crumbled.
He stands before me,
Splendid in his nakedness.
And I believe.

I lay here in your arms,
  comforted by your embrace.
I hear your breath exhaled,
  warm upon my neck.
Your body is firm and real
  as I lean against it.
We gaze into the heaves
  and see its wonders.
You point them out:
constellations, images of wonder to make my heart weep tears of love.
              And then they fall...
  And I lie here,
  shattered.

Here is a poem on AIDS ... hope y'all like it... :
AIDS
You were there
to make me laugh.
I was there
to cry with you.
We were there
together
to convince each other
that things would
get better
as soon as we left
for college
together
on the other side of the country.
But, one day,
you weren't there,
and when I
found you,
you weren't the same.
It wasn't another
break-up;
it wasn't another
family quarrel.
And I realized
that the time
I had left
to spend with you
was short
suddenly.
Suddenly,
we realized
you had been,
and now more
than ever,
dying.
I wondered with you,
why...
why you?
Why not me?
Why not the newborn
down the street?
Why did you
have to die
of AIDS?

sorry, forgot to warn y'all... it's long! (kinda) tell me what you think,
please...

very clear. well written, too. it's nice to see poetry that manages to
capture the essence of an issue without pointless obscurity, wordiness
or losing its stylistic effectiveness.

here are two poems of love... they are not sad ones tho... i hope ya'll
like them... :
Love should be
you and me,
together,
forever
and always;
never to part
except into
our seperate dreams.

Love is
when two days
apart
seem like
eternity,
and two hours
together
seem like
heaven.
