The Zine Item
|
Jan 10 02:02 UTC 1993 |
I am a fan of "zines." Zines are low-budget publications, often
produced by only one person. A lot of them are science-fiction
fanzines. There are also lots of music zines, which cover local
music scenes. Borders and Webster's both seem to have a good
selection of zines.
The reviewer of record for zines used to be Factsheet Five. This
"meta-zine" was published by a fellow named Mike Gunderloy up to
about a year ago. Then, he suddenly quit publishing and
disappeared. Fortunately, a guy named Jerod Pore in San Francisco
has taken up where Gunderloy left off. He has started publishing
an electronic version of Factsheet Five, and a printed version is
soon to hit the newsstands. To get on the mailing list for the
electronic version of F5, contact Jerod at jerod23@well.sf.ca.us.
If you have ftp capability, you can ftp it from ftp.msen.com,
which happens to be right here in AA.
At any rate, I'd like to hear about any zines you've read (or
written) lately.

One interesting zine I've recently subscribed to is named Short
Circuit. It is published by a group calling itself the Fuzzball
Eater's Society, and calls itself "The Newsletter for Engineering
Empowerment." The first issue has essays on the corporate mindset,
creativity, and the costs of quality (or lack of it).
If you're a technical type who has felt the frustration of working for
outfits with rectal-cranial inversion, you'll find this zine amusing.
You can get it from FES Publishing, PO Box 70, Bayside, NY 11361.

I'm almost embarresed to try again on this item, but I * have *
learned more than a few things about BBSs in the last week. What
I was trying to say is that I have been a poet for a while, but I'm
new to the BBS community. I do have a zine coming out in the next
2-3 weeks called Sidedoor, & I would love to receive some last
minute submissions. People interested in more info about the mag
are welcome to send me e-mail (or send me e-mail if you are interested
in zines and poetry in general).

So, is it published yet? If so, tell us all how we can get a copy.
Issue #8 of OnTour: The Newsletter for Bicycle Tourists is now on
its way to subscribers. To get a copy, send a buck to: OnTour Publica-
tions, 2113 Arborview Blvd., Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

I know I'm real late on this one, but Scheme and Dwarf (two long gone logins,
but good friends of mine publish a zine called "Peace Freedom Anarchy Change
Revolution NOW" I really enjoy it, even though I don't necessarily agree with
everything they have to say. If you want an address as soon as I find an old
one, I'll let you know.
I myself am working on a zine called "Horse Crap" Not QUITE as
politicla as 'change'. It should be more about the way I think feel act
smell taste and
otherwise. I do, however have an article called "Why punk/anarchy stuff is a
bunch of bull and will never work:
