Right after I first saw this posting, I printed it out with the intention
of carefully reading it through when I had the time. Tonight, I had the
time, and I was fairly blown away by both the content and the construction.
I found four voices, each coming in after the first (or previous) voice
has spoken four lines. The left margin placements, in reference to away
and finally homeward, each voice following the same pattern.
Even without the artful, poetic manipulations, the content is incredible.
But, my, when you play with words, you play hardball. Bravo, Michael.
This really should be published.

This is a lovely piece of work. I'm honored and flattered
to be included in the title.
Incorrigible techie that I am, I used vi to reveal the "poem
within a poem".

Gee. First time I ever heard of a spreadsheet being used to
create a literary work.

It does have a mathematical quality to it though.

this is your progress?

Away from summer sunlight I wander,
A youthful soul among the daffodils,
Rare jewels when you find them
Away from summer sunlight I wander,
And wandering, find nothing but
A youthful soul among the daffodils,
And lesser flowers, few and far between,
though
Rare jewels when you find them
Undiminished in their glory
Away from summer sunlight I wander
And wandering find nothing but
Tall lonely obelisks that block the passage of
A youthful soul among the daffodils
And lesser flowers, few and far between, though
(By no means accidentally)
Rare jewels when you find them
Undiminished in their glory
The essence of a questioning
mind
Away from summer sunlight I wander;
Tall lonely obelisks block the passage of
A youthful soul among the daffodils
(By no means accidentally)
Rare jewels when you find them
The essence of a questioning mind
Tall lonely obelisks that block
(By no means accidentally)
The essence of a questioning mind
And we find it, looking among
Tall lonely obelisks that block
Our progress while
(By no means accidentally)
We search out our darkest secrets
The essence of a questioning mind
We have looked before for the means of our destruction
And we find it, looking among
Tall lonely obelisks that block
The onset of freedon, that threatens to slow
Our RprogressS while
(By no means accidentally)
We find the truths of fear and destruction and anguish:
We search out our darkest secrets
The essence of a questioning
mind
There are some things manking was never meant to know
erm, make that mankind
sorry
