When and where do y'all write?
|
May 15 12:37 UTC 1995 |
Sometimes when I have the free time to write, I find I can't think of
anything to write about, yet other times when I'm really busy and have
a lot of work to get done, I get creative. Does anyone else ever feel
this way? When do you like to write? Where do you like to write? Or
does it not matter? What situations cause you to be more apt to write?

I spend a lot of time like that... but lately (ie the past day or so) I've
really had the urge to write... I think this summer will be very productive
for me. I like to write early int he morning, or late at night. I'm not
sure why exactly, could be because I have this feeling that no one else is
around and therefore there will, hopefully, be less distractions. Where
I write varies... I generally try to get comfortable, and then not move
from that spot for as long as I am writing- that generally doens't work as
something needs to be done so I have to get up.... :) I find I am more
apt to write when I have had a really memorable dream that just begs to be
put into a story- like right now, see you all later! :)

I write when bored or when I am in pain. The easiest way to deal with my
problems seems to be to write about them. I guess I write anywhere at anytime
and really for any reason. Does anybody have a suggestion about how to sniff
dandylions with out getting a yellow nose? Smell them that is! Smile!

Hmmm...when do I write...Well, I write when the mood strikes. If that happens
to be when I am busy, then I take time out *if possible* to at least capture
half the thought. I tend to write in spurts, creating several pieces in a
single day. *Poems, that is...;)* However, I have to agree with Anne, I think
my favorite time to write would be late at night, but not just because of the
lack of distractions. I like to write late at night because at that time, my
body enters 'philosophical' mode, and I end up looking over the events of the
day with a completely different viewpoint than I did at the time. I like to
write at this time because I can toss a whole different perspective on
situations than I had at the time and thus create a whole new image with the
same old thing. ;) I also, however, find it necessary to write when I am in
pain as it helps me to sort out my feelings without destroying myself.
As for how to smell dandelions without getting your nose yellow, silly girl
you hold them away from your nose. ;) And besides, what's so bad about
turning your nose yellow? It simply means you like butter! ;)

Try explaining that your butter fancy is what made you late for class, your
profs tend not to like it...And the class knows what you've been doing cause
you look like a picaso (sp) painting....not very entertaining.

you go into class... :)

Or, you could always borrow some from mcDonald's. ;) If I were an english
professor, I would be entertained. But, I'm not your english professor.
Heh, the day I let wonderful memories such as those slip into oblivion is
the day I die... hey, another time, place I enjoy writing...when I am
outside. Whether it be to sit and think, or to look at the stars, or to
watch people or even just the
clouds or grass. Wonderful thoughts come to me at that time. :)

When do I write? When something interesting enough to write down happens.
And as for dandelions and such, the answer is simple, don't smell the silly
things...

Well, if you don't smell them, how is your nose going to turn yellow, and how
are you supposed to worry yourself about how you're going to get the yellow
off of your nose?

(to the original question:) If I could write every time I wanted to, I woul(or
every time I wanted to start) I would be dead from exhaustaion by now. Not to
mention flunking all my classes and estranged from my family and friends. :)
Someday...:)

If I wrote whenever I wanted to, I wouldn't need a bookbag or several
notebooks... I'd just carry around a legal pad and pretend to be taking
notes in class. Of course, my GPA would be about half of what it is
now, but hey it'd be fun. Maybe I should do that next spring... :)

Well...it's funny...I usually get "urges" to write...and often-times when
I get them...I can't figure out anything to write about! Then, other times,
like many others, I am busy. I can also write sort of "on command" by a
teacher assigning something...and it isn't very hard (sometimes)...yet, when
I tell myself that I'm going to write something because I have time...I can't.
I don't understand it. As for where I write...usually it doesn't matter.
I'll write in school when I get the urge, instead of doing my homework...and
I can write in my room, in the car on a trip, and outside. It's usually best
when I am alone...like at night. But overall, I guess I write wherever.

Oh...and the music usually influences what I write, too. It is easier for
me to write horror when I have Metallica on, and poems if some slower, more
heart-related music is on. I guess they just put me in "moods". =)

I usually write alone, with orchestral music playing not too loud not
too soft in the background. (often Beethoven, Zappa, or the Fantasia Sndtrk)

I usually like it quiet when I write. Unless people outside are being
noisy (I live in a dorm) in which case I blast something in another
language so they will leave me alone. Then I write in peace.
I get urges to write too. Sometimes I get this great idea and rush
to my computer to start typing it in. Unofortunately, it seems like
most of the time this happens at midnight or one or two and I have class
at nine usually. But of course I forget this and keep on writing until
my eyes can't focus on the screen anymore.

See, now, I can't be creative using a computer, as far as writing goes.
I'm not a very good typist so it's hard to get it all down before it
disappears. It's all but impossible to keep up with the human mind in everyday
life, so I avoid anything that would slow me down when I'm writing. I can't
write as fast as I ca think, and I can't type as fast as I can write, or
scribble, if you will, so I cut out any hinderance to my creative process.

Mostly, I write in my study at home, late at night, when there
are least likely to be interruptions. However, my *ideas* for
writing are apt to come anytime, anywhere-- in my office, at a
meeting, during lunch, while taking a walk. Under those
circumstances, I'll scribble down a draft or a sketch of the
idea if I've got paper handy, usually waiting until later and
the solitude of my study to polish it off. But sometimes I'll
take the time and finish it then and there. Some of my best
poems were written in restaurants. (Some of my worst ones too.)

Actually the reason I do it all on computer is because I can type a lot
faster than I can write. My mother taught me how to type in the 5th grade
because I was wasting too much paper writing.
Sometimes I get ideas and just jot them down. Then I work on them during
lunch while my friends keep on telling me to put it away and be social.
But if I have a real good idea that I'm afraid I'll forget, I don't
stop writing, no matter what, unless my hand starts to *really* hurt.

I find that my best writing and most humerous is when i write letters to
people detailing my everyday life. I do this at the keyboard. I am currently
on the farmsaga, part 3. When I write poetry, however, I find that I must
do it by hand to get the poem to show my feelings. There is then much
scribbling and cross marks and words overwritten before I eventually type it
out. I write a lot of rhyming things for my answering machine, just to make
things interesting. I only write poetry when I am very moved. Just me.
