Exciting news for Amiga users

Anyone who's interested in video probably also has some interest in the
Amiga, the only computer system that was designed from the ground up with
video compatibility in mind.
In case you haven't heard, there are some very exciting things happening
with the Amiga. For starters, the Amiga platform has just been purchased
by Gateway 2000.

I'm not sure what's currently going on with Amiga.. not much news lately,
but there is supposedly a new Amiga coming out in a few years.. meanwhile a
'bridge' system (the new amiga on an x86 <shudder>) intended for developers
is supposed to have been released by now, but I don't think it has been.
hmm...
I'd really like to see the Amiga get back up off the ground again. I love
my Amiga, tho I use an x86 for almost everything right now.. runnin linux of
course :).. and if the new ami's are the kind of a/v powerhouses that the
originals were, I'll be snatching one up for sure. The only really interesting
thing on the amiga front in the last few years has been the massive effort
on the part of the die-hard users to keep the system alive, and might I say
they have done a wicked job of that. You can get some pretty impressive gfx's
cards, soup up that al ami with a powerPC (heresy, I hear you scream :), a
better sound card, and you're set. Maybe pop in a video toaster flyer if you
have that kinda dough. STILL a solid gfx computer, over years of being swapped
from company to company without so much as an OS update. That I can admire.
Actually I guess the gateway-backed Amiga has actually released an OS
revision (3.5), the final one for the "Legacy" (ie commodore) amigas. With
some last improvements and better networking (incl. TCP/IP of course). I
might just get it, if I don't install MkLinux on my a4000 first...
oh but wait.. then I wouldn't be able to play all the wicked gamez ;)
